Santo Domingo.– The “Fashion for Help” program will be held on October 24 with a special fashion show by designer Carolina Herrera and all funds collected will go to the "Today is the Best Moment" program, which is part of an effort to offer low-income women the chance to receive free early-detection breast cancer screenings.

According to Ana Valdes, Communications Coordinator for the First Lady's Office, early detection programs are a fundamental tool to combat breast cancer, allowing for the implementation of more effective therapeutic strategies.

DominicanaModa, to take place from October 19-24 at the El Embajador Hotel, is an event that was born in the spirit of social responsibility and demonstrates that fashion is a vehicle to provide well-being among the people.

Moved by the need that exists in various levels of the society, DominicanaModa created “Fashion for Help,” which will collect funds for such an important cause.

It goes with the policy, "METROS a substitute for education!"

What's wrong with collecting funds to help needed women have breast cancer check-ups? Anything wrong with prevention or detection? Are you guys doing anything positive to help your country? The only comments I see from some of you, no need to mention names, are always derogatory and downright mean spirited.
It looks to me that you hate the D.R. so much (jelousy, perhaps?) that your hatred does not allow room for sensibility

Amber, if you do not get what people like Josean and gmiller are underlining, then i am afraid you really are not looking deep enough into the symbolism. this is the wife of a president who has squandered the nation's treasure on frivolous ego widening ventures, such as the Metro, which further impoverish the already deprived. for this lady to arrange a fashion show, which , doubtlessly will be patronised by the glitterati of Dominican society, to raise a few coins to throw at the poor, is cynical, at best. surely, Belkis and Amarliys from Los Mina will not be dining on South African lobster tails, alongside Her Highness. then again , some people just do not get it.

Someone here seems to talk mostly about the "Metro", regardless of the topic. Now we have someone talking about "demand the beaches back". What on earth does that have to do with the topic at hand? I understand the symbolism, but could we stop sounding like a broken record? It gets pretty old and tiresome.

I see here US $1000.00 dinner plates sponsored by very wealthy people who could donate the money themselves, to collect funds for various causes. Perhaps it's a way of getting the rich to shell peanuts ($$) in exchanges for something that otherwise they would not bother doing.
The first lady (of any country) could just sit and enjoy the benefits of being the president's wife and do nothing else

Amber, There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with helping people.

But Dominicans are born with the entitlement mentality. They'd steal, sorry misappropriate, the money and ahow NO remorse.

Then they'd lie about what they did and have no shame for doing it. visa-vi the entitlement gene....

Full circle.

This is the last time that I will bother to address anything directly to low life ghetto trash. I don't know Ricardolito or Eriliza. You cannot stand anybody that thinks or express an opinion different from your barrio mentality. I very seldom post any comments on this website because of people like you. I definitely don't want to engage in Philippics with Lilliputians

Amber seems to be totaly disconnected from reality, although her points are alswo well taken.

The first lady and her husband have a bourgeoisie atitude towards State funds.

State money's are being stollen and squandered and they have a complete disconnect from the people, Although I agree that Cancer can be beaten it can be done without the high society arrogance towards the poor people that live out a humbl;e existance in the DR.

maybe, Amber, to you, everybody who does not tote a Gucci bag and Versace raiments is ghetto trash. one day, when you grow up and become some semblance of an adult, you will understand the concepts embodied within some postings here. you appear more ghetto than the other posters, becuase, unlike you, they are not lashing out at those who disagree with them. they might be making snide remarks, of which i am oftentimes guilty. but you appear to be someone who would pull a knife on your detractors. now go back to the highway underpass.

Now amber, LIE-onel Fernandez comes from one of those ghetto barrios that according to you produce trash mentality. The only problem is that he, like probably you, forgot where he came from and turned his back on the most need in our society.

No matter how much he, his wife and maybe you, suck up to the WHITE rich powerful elites they are the ones who despise all of you as “ghetto trash darkies!”

HATE TO SOUND, BUT.....

"Fashion for help" IT DOES SOUND GOOD, and has a ring to it.

I'm all for early cancer detection for ANY HUMAN BEING. But what I'm having a problem with is...Once detected are they fully funded and equipped for the costly treatment with follow-ups ?

PREVENTION & AWARENESS would be a great start, or we might end up with a bunch of well dressed Cancer Victims. True one dresses good, one feels good.....And I'm sure it will draw lot's of $$....Once everybody gets there cut how much of it will actually go to the program.
No mention of checks and balances ever, why ?

As the song goes "Nothing like sharp dress man" or Woman in this case.
I can only hope this cause stays true to it's cause....That's all.

Question, one has to ask....Do all these Humanitarian gestures in any way go towards re-election ?

LET'S ALL HOPE SOMETHING GOOD COMES OUT OF THIS ONE.
