Santo Domingo. – Dominican Republic will deploy 600 more Army troops in the next few days to reinforce the units assigned to guard the border with Haiti, a measure announced just three days after former U.S. president Jimmy Carter called the flow of immigrants across it unstoppable.”

Army chief Joaquin Virgilio Perez made the announcement yesterday during a meeting with the commanders of border zone brigades, and affirmed the new troops will be part of the efforts to confront the constant smuggling, drug trafficking and other threats in the region. “A little more than 600 men are currently in the process of concluding their training are coming to the border immediately, to complete all the units at the border, which is where the Dominican Republic begins.”

In a statement the Army said its Commander traveled to the zone of San Juan de la Maguana (west) accompanied by other senior staffers and met in the Justiniano del Rosario Army Post, headquarters of the 25th Company.

Several opinion makers rebuked Carter’s statements during a visit to Santo Domingo, with terms such as Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales, who called them “unnecessary interference” in Dominican Republic’s affairs and of “exacerbating” the tense relations with Haiti.

Black of night, low dark boats on the water, ferry all night long.

These people are not afraid of dying, they are dying in their own country.

Dominicans authorities are snoozing with their laxity allowing the Haitian exodus to DR, because of lack of political will and control. The situation, as predicted by many wise observers, is getting out of hand, and the lukewarm measure and scarecrow tactics of sending a few military to the border, will accomplish nothing.
Ex-presidents Clinton and Carter are already making public demands on the DR to "absorb" the Haitian problem, and the Haitian government is encouraging the dispatch to DR of their young, elderly, pregnant, sick, unemployed, homeless in buses and trucks, and by foot into the DR.
The census of illegal Haitians now stands at over 3 million and counting, and the situation will pretty soon reach a breaking point, were violence will probably erupt.
This is not a question of political correctness or racism, is the irresponsibility of the USA, Canada and France in shoving the Haitian problem into the DR's lap, and washing their hands of providing a solution.

The political fall out from any violence caused by this problem being dropped on our lap will kill us. Could even lead to another '65 occupation/invasion.

Where the hell do you get your census information from is beyond what your usual speculative nonsenses tend to be (lol). Yeah wow, making numbers up as you go along huh?

From the known world fact book reported of 1.5 millions undocumented with the reminder that even makes it 2 million are the ones that are in fact in a sense documented but certain Dominican Authorities still do not want to recognize or are those in "Transition" as claimed the Dominican Constitution as DR with fierce resentment and discrimination do not allows path to citizenry for even those Haitians that are born on DR soil nor offer any such program that would make those that are undocumented to come out of the shadow to be known by Dominican customs in order to even conduct a proper survey or get a good census for accurate number. Yet, that is not the case for all foreigners in DR such as the Danish, Hollanders among others and just to name a few who are roaming DR illegal without any kind of persecution.

For reasons that are indeed still "Trujilloistic" in agenda in terms of whom DR allows or grant legality to in DR is obvious as many do deny is true as well by using many nationalistic form of arguments and excuses to justify their extremist neo-conservative views that often are viewed as rather racist due to their forceful radicalism stances which also often discredit any actual valid patriotism concerns certain few Dominicans are entitled to have.

Sure, with the known discriminative resentments and granted the concern of the growing numbers of Haitian migrants into DR it is also of no surprise matter that the premises for the focus which we all also know have mingled with human right violations due to the innate hatred some Dominicans also carry for Haitians that puts DR in a tough spot when it comes to a lot of things on pertinent relevance to the migratory issue.

Well, the authorities have started the process, let's see how far and serious they take it. Political tact and humane treatment of the illegals is a must, if this process is to have any success. Again, a greater effort must be made to the wider international public-may I suggest having international newspeople accompany the military and film the environmental and ecological devastation that is the product of the unsustainable movement of Haiti's poor and destitude towards the eastern part of the island. Again the goal here is to put the the Government of Haiti on the dock for refusing to take charge of its citizens. For abandoning the first rule of competent government: protection of its citizenry. Of course, with the UN and the international represented already in Haiti, the new initiative on the part of the DR government had better be coordinated with these UN authorities. Perhaps the UN representatives can serve as transit coordinators directing the returning Haitians back

Drink coffee (Bustello) so your Haitian brain cells can have some common sense; what kind
of dumb and stupid comparison (1,000,000) million hatiians or more to few dozens maybe
thousands from other nationalities plus on top of that Dominicans never had any quarrel in
the past with the mentioned nationalities.

That's why Haitians will "NEVER" wake up from the mediocrity as long as you don't want
to recognize that We don't like you guys for being black but for being Haitians and killing so
many innocent Dominicans in the 22 years that you destroyed our country.

If haitians are so lovely and innocent how come caribbean islands like the Bahamas and other
islands can't stand you guys and they are "BLACKS" too so this is discrimination or maybe haitians are not welcome anywhere; Why Canada, US or France doesn't implement a program
to let haitians migrate on humane basis conditions

Very simple for your haitian brain cells to understand because these 3 mentioned powerful nations give a rat ass about Haitians and since you are so weak and stupid you guys buy
the bait that they care about your filthy nation.

As long as haitians don't get a sense of identity and go the extra mile to build the dumpster
that they live in planting trees, stop believing in vodoo, stop playing the black victim role and wake
up from their childish dream of living in the past celebrating non practical events you guys
will alway be like zombies without a destiny.

Question, should we give all the 1.5 to 2 million Haitians Dominican citizenship? ,if not how many should we allow??

The traitors who defend this onslaught don't care about DR ,and they don't care about our people so why should we give a hoot about what they think!

We should gradually begin deportations (humanely) throughout the country and fortify the border until we are once again in control of our own destinies and the Clintons,Carters,Jesuits can all go to hell were they belong!

as much as i admire mr. president carter i would much would rather prefered he had not become involved in this issue. i am afraid to say it but mr.presidet carter is getting lost in his thoughts, to put it midly, and could not possibly have understood the demographic issues related to this matter. la dominicana is under stress on many fronts. the DR has to import foodstuffs because it is unable to meet it its own needs. the educational system, the health system, and the enviromental protection agency are all underfunded, understaffed and under tremendous stress. the DR is reaching its breaking point. how could anyone in their right mind expect a small nation, the DR, absorb an alien entity saddled as it is with its own problems.

MIRABUENO AND JRRUBIROSA, have you guys noticed that people are actually ignoring you guys on the forum. Something new please, people already know what you guys are going to say. i know that your limitations are severe cognitively may i say, but even a child changes his/her behavior after a while.

I am very happy to see action steps being taken by the host country. As I have say before, the burden rest on the host country to stop illegal migration, especially when the sending country sees such migration as a relieve valve.

MIRABUENO, if you need my statement to be clarified of down graded two second grade i can do that as well, but do not feel like it right now. JR, is off the fringe, so there is no hope with such element.

On October 12, Dominica has M3. 5 earthquakes. The big earthquake and the hurricane can occur. The government must pay attention to the disaster prevention. The social turbulence and the rebellion and the earthquake flood air disaster and the heavenly body movement have the connection. The government must pay attention ?

My god, willy. This must be the second time we agree. Willy puts it concisely.

Dominicans are being kicked from all sides and when we finally have had enough it won't be pretty. People can continue to refer to the sentiment as racist, xenophobic, ultra-conservative and it still won't change how we feel in the end. I just hope us standing up for ourselves won't be our downfall.

I thought there was force in place, it was supposed to be answer to all the migration problems.

This game has been played for a generation now maybe a new solution is needed like a consensus between Haiti, DR, and USA on this issue.

Troops on the borders giving homes used by illegals does not seem to a long term solution. It seems to be laughable actually.

I will not buy your story that you are Dominican not because you defend Haitians but your "modus operandi", one part is human rights and the other one is to twist the real news meaning; your guys "Haitians" are full of hate against Dominicans and this is your agenda.

Preaching that you work for the education department in NY doesn't help neither since you posted
comments already saying that haitians speak many languages and are smarter than Dominicans so the next question is if Dominican children are dumb as forrest gump how come
our country is doing better with being stupid and idiots than the children from your homeland

JR, I do not even know why I'll bother responding to you, but because your claim is false, then i must do it in respect to the other serious people here.

I CLEARLY STATED THAT IT WAS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF DOMINICANS TO EXPND THEIR EDUCATION AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY STAY ONE STEP AHEAD OF THOSE HAITIANS THAT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND DOMINICAN UNIVERSITIES, SINCE THEY WILL BE TRY-LINGUAL AS OPPOSED TO THE BI-LINGUAL DOMINICANS.

This was in response to a posting by another poster who indicated that many dominican universities were teaching english and that it was possible that 15% of the dominican population will be bilingual in the coming years. if this claim is true and haitian are attending these universities hand in hand with dominicans, they already have french, and learn spanish from living in spanish speaking country and have the chance to learn english at the university, then that is in fact a formidable challenge to native dominicans.

I hope you process, if not, it

Dagtan ,first you are a very twisted person... If someone doesn't agree with you they are wrong according to Lord Dagtan and if the person attempts to find a common ground then you are educating them.

First of all to clear many of your misconceptions ,you are not the only one living in NY

Secondly nobody in the public forum has their real information so stating what degrees you have is silly and the only way to show your education is in your writing .

Third ,being a teacher in the NYC public school system is not exactly a high achievement given that they have a very low requirements ,come to upper Westchester and try to work in one of our schools .

En fin...I see that you have finally learned that accusing everyone of racism is cowardly and counter-productive because though racism does exist (everywhere including Haiti) the situation between DR and Haiti is much more complex and multi-faceted issue impossible to be defined by one word as you and others post here and impo

impossible to solve easily as others post here .

A complex problem requires a complex solution and typical left wing dialogue will not work in this forum since we are inoculated against senseless words and catchphrases such as "yes we can" and other inane words aimed at the heart and not the brain because the Haitian problem is the greatest threat to the Dominican Republic since it's foundation (continuous threat ) and no amount of mental masturbation will show otherwise .Coddling Haitians will only speed up this destruction of DR .We have at this time over 10% of our population as illegal Haitian CITIZENS (They are Haitian citizens btw) and this cannot continue !

I personally believe that DR has no future until the Haitian problem is corrected ,meaning the MAJORITY if not all the illegal Haitians are deported ,otherwise DR will make the slow decline into the Abyss ,slowly Dominican culture will disappear being replaced by the Haitian culture .

If we have to deport every last Haitian to save DR we should deport them to the last man ,woman and child and although we would suffer attacks,in the long run we would be better off!
