Autoconvoc@s rails the Fermandez-Vargas pact.
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO.- Autoconvocad@s, a new independent political movement, affirmed Tuesday that Dominican society's dilemma is continuing to be bound to the purposes of the owners of traditional political parties and withstanding the deterioration and degeneration of government agencies, or instead to break from the yoke by articulating a movement of social and political response which fights for decency in public affairs.

The organization recently formed by citizens not linked to the traditional political parties said in the last few months, weeks and days said the country has seen how the ruling PLD and opposition PRD parties, which it calls “corporate groups” headed by president Leonel Fernandez and by Miguel Vargas, “head of the pseudo PRD opposition,” try to impose a new Constitution on the country.

Autoconvocad@s spokesman Pedro Catrain affirms that behind that new Constitution hides a purpose to prolong the reign of corruption and impunity, to satisfy the egos of catholic elites and consecrate the interest of private over public assets.  “We’ve also seen how the democratic spaces within those same parties of the system are closed, how frauds are done and candidacies prevail and how they ignore internal democratic norms without a bit of shame.”

He said the facts show the country is under a fraudulent regime designed intentionally to exclude most of the population from wellbeing and development, “a sort of social apartheid which condemns millions of people to live in subhuman conditions and without any types of rights.”

“The social policies maintain the seal of neoliberal compensation programs after reaping failures for two decades; health, education, electricity, highways and local roads get worse while the solidarity cards and light and gas subsidy bonds are oriented more than to fight poverty, to sustain a guarantee of electoral affections,” he said.

IMF agreement will raise the cost of living

“The stupidity of Leonel Fernandez’s Administration in handling crisis has led to handing over the management of the economy to the International Monetary Fund which will have as consequence the increase in the electrical bill, the increase in tax rates to the productive sectors and the increase of prices of family staples and the basic services,” Autoconvocad@s said.

We keep blaming Leonel, the PLD, PRD, et al. But do we have a leader that could/will stand up and actually bring on change? WE DON'T!!!!

My family, myself included, have historically been affiliated with the PRD, but when it came down to voting, and I had to compare between the lesser of two evils:
1. Vargas, Marbella Involvement, Hungry PRD Cronists and extremely high possibility of curruption
or
2. Leonel, Hungry PLD Cronists and extremely high possibility of curruption

The latter was missing one, so even though I may historically PRD, I voted for #2. It was simply the lesser of the 2-evils. Did I have another choice? NO! So we are stuck with this poor leadership up until there is SOMEONE, that is willing to fight the corruption and cares about the well being of the poor. The problem is, that person may never make it into the office because their agenda will not benefits the rich and powerful.

Perhaps that SOMEONE could do the reverse of what these politicians promise. Rather than promise and promise to the poor to win votes and then do nothing for them, they should promise and promise to the rich, get their votes, and then do nothing for them and pull out that hidden agenda for the poor.

The possibilities of this happening? NONE

"decency in public affairs"

Dominican's are so insecure they need their macho mentality; it will never be an intellectual contest. Always physical.

in retrospect, we can see how the PRSC has become obsolete which will also be the history of the PLD & PRD. The 1 thing that saves DR from an infinite regress of corruption is that is has a highly educated diaspora who are still highly committed to their roots. In essence, DR's expatriots started to leave because of the dictatorship in the 60's and some later in the 70's with the turmoil of fraudulent elections. The beauty of this is that many have lived in disgust from afar receiving as much education & becoming as wealthy as possible with the hope of 1 day destroying the inbred corruption that has plague this country. Mark em' because those days are numbered. Here in NY there are 100's of 20-30 somethings who are making a name for themselves & will return to their roots to destroy those old ideals with no need to enrich themselves because they have already done it on their own terms.

Most are ivy league educated products of farmers and poor immigrants who were left with nothing. These same young adults started from scratch. Most were babies during hurricane david's time. Most have been involved with student movements. Some are doctors, lawyers, wall street businessmen, but most importantly all of their families are poor except for them. The 1 st generation of what desperation built. The 1st generation of hope that will change it because corruption is not in their ideals but the prosperity of their country is. I say this because I know most of them and they have no need to go to their god forsaken country because they have everything they need. But their passion is more than this it is to save the land where they were born but never enjoyed.

Dominica is there such an organized movement in NYC I have not heard of them, I live in New Haven and even though we hosted the 1st. ever Dominican Student conference at Yale I have not heard of a movement thats talking about going back and making change, if you do know please let me know.

Fact of the matter its very hard to infliltrate political and social circles in DR if your only experience there was to visit family when you were 10 or when you went on a cheap spring break vacation.

It takes a diff. breed of activist for change there one can even dare to call them super activist b/c protesting there usually ends in violence and community organizing is so difficult. Change might only come from an organized effort already orchestrated abroad and brought over all at once, but as history has shown us with the Cuban revolution if you try to do that usually violent results come to be. Specially now that the new constitutions bands legal appeals due to uncostitutionality issues.

LF, MVP., :

Please be honest declare you, your family members' personal assets/properties including in domestic and overseas, and explain the source.

Let your people in Dom. Rep. make a judgement.,

Then., we know you are serious to do something for your people.

Talking something, signing on something........ , it is a show...... does not help.

I'll tell you this LF was driving around in a 1978 Beetle before he was president, now he has bulletproof submarines, jajajaja

11 Million pesos magically were declared as his savings, when he was re-elected, Who the hell saves 15 Million pesos in less than 5 years with a freaking law degree from the UASD??
I wonder where the other 8 million DOLLARS that he used for his re-election came from,

He must be a great entrepeneur to to spend 8 million dollars of his own hard earned money on his campaign, and still manage to save around 3 Million dollars in his savings, ohh did I mention his daugther dates the son of a Rich Oil man from Jordan who was also involved with in the Harry Sargeant fundraising scandal??
SMH!!

But I don't want to gossip so you didn't hear this from me....

Well Vincho has been told to put up or shut up:

Step up Vincho

Political scientist Cesar Perez is challenging National Ethics Commission director Vinicio Castillo to step up to the plate and denounce everyone who is engaged in corruption in the current administration. Perez is criticizing Castillo, who recently said that President Leonel Fernandez was "too benign" and that he had "an unprecedented level of tolerance". He added that because of Castillo's alliances and position in government he has the opportunity to denounce high-level corruption. However, Perez also pointed out the contradictions in his statements, reminding readers that he was the lawyer for Baninter. "It is interesting that Vincho speaks of those cases of intolerance, but there is a documented and proven act, of the failed banks (Baninter), during which he was the lawyer for those banks."

As bad as it sounds, what the DR needs is a Pinochet. Chile had one, and look how good it turned out. Was he an a$$hole, yes, but it cleaned up the country. Thats what we need.

Gil Scott Heron once said, "The Revolution will not be Televised." No advertisement needed. No announcements needed. There are no delusions of grandeur. save for the state to be representative of its people. Because there is silence does not mean that things aren't being done.

The problem with the Dominican political system is that it is based on a mentality of BIG-TENT system and thinking, meaning that if you bring an alternative and competitive ideas or frameworks, you are either downplayed or simply marginalized by the ones under the tent.

in simple terms, if you come here to do the right for the people, we'll destroy you.
