Bautista Rojas, Jimmy Carter in his recent visit.
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Public Health Ministry today defended the binational plan to eradicate malaria and elephantiasis in Haiti and Dominican Republic, with the cooperation of the Carter Foundation, and rejects allegations that former U.S. president Jimmy Carter’s objective is to fuse both countries.

Dr. Bautista Rojas urged those who have opined in that regard to apologize to the ex U.S. chief executive.

He hailed the Carter Foundation’s collaboration with the Pan-American Health Organization (OPS) and other international organizations. “At no time did the ex- American chief executive speak of fusing both countries, by referring to Dominican Republic and Haiti working jointly to eliminate malaria and elephantiasis.”

The official reiterated that in the wake of distorted commentaries, “he, Carter, deserves at least excuses from those who’ve voiced those comments.”

During his visit to the country last week Carter met with president Leonel Fernandez and when he spoke about the health and migration topics, affirmed that Dominican Republic is bound to Haiti must solve both problems jointly.

"Jimmy Carter’s objective is to fuse both countries"

For you DR Bautista Rojas to understand the concept of "fusion" you will need to understand not just carter alone. He is just one more puppet of the avalanche of the international community crazy agenda which include many "we are the world" Dominicans traitor too.

Actually, your wrong, was during Miss Clinton term in 1995 that he was forced to his last two years term, I know very well, because thats when I jumped out off the Island knowing he was endorsing "El Chopo" of the PLD>

During Carter term happenned that "Sugar Cane quota was cut it short due to the development of Corn syrup", which is killing all of US today>

Actually fusion of Hispaniola has been on the mind of the US for quite sometime, I've read case studies and reports on how it would benefit the whole world to have them conjoined.

Nothing against my Haitian brothers but too many people died for DR to become independent and I just don't see it happening, Dominican patriots would rather burn the motherland to the grown...

Unless politicians saw an opportunity to steal more foreign aid as one nation.

Still Kids in our schools barely know our own history, we have 20 year olds in 8th grade I doubt the ministry of education is competent enough to teach everyone both Dominican and Haitian history.

Unless they can get a do over and start from scratch; still you gotta admit it would be great if they could join and erase their debt under some new clause, like file for chapter 11 and then apply for a new loan while they hang an "Under new management" sign on the map, jajajaja..

Carter is a well-intentioned man, with a good heart; however, he was a lousy and failed president.

I have no problems with his intentions. He is an elderly former statesman with not much to do, and he has clearly committed himself to some good causes.

I, like many here, just wish people would realize that, while we share a common island with Haiti, we are very much culturally separate. I don't want to be lumped together in every initiative, for I believe there are ulterior motives: part of the larger world agenda to merge us and eliminate the problem by absorption and mutation. We must fight this agenda vigorously, to preserve our heritage and nation. This shouldn't mean we don't help our neighbors; however, preservation of our distinct culture is paramount and the larger issue.

Haiti is not a Dominican problem-it is a world community concern and it must be treated as such.

May i Ask who should be apologizing to who because if my memory serves right he said "illegal immigration from Haiti cannot be stopped by Dominicans". With this said the Mr. Carter have to make an apology to the Dominican people for such a dumb comment and another to USA for make them look so stupid in the international stage.

Smell not good Carter former USpresident is a part of the plan to fusion both nation in one.Of course some nonationalists agree to the concept .But difficulties are coming cos this generation also is in knowledge of desasters in new global plan.Fusion is nonsense .DR and Haiti are different .

I think we are failing to see where the blame resides in this story. Was the dr. dude told by carter himself that the US wants this to happen? I guarantee you not. So where does he come up with something like this and why? one word....IGNORANCE. Lest we forget when Carter came in 96 to visit Bosch at his new house and he went in with a briefcase and came out without it. Oh yeah, I know, that was a long time ago and WE forgot! Just like we have forgotten all the blood that was shed through the "otras tantas ser libre sabra!" ways of getting our independence. I hope we haven't forgotten that part of our national anthem!

Dear conspiracy thoerists....there is no plan; I repeat, NO PLAN by anyone to fuse Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The only time that thought ever even comes up is when certain specific Dominican political personalities come up on campaign season and it is a destructive, disruptive dirty rumour used to whip up nationalist sentiments to elicit votes with scare tactics by painting the big evil "other" and distract a few votors of that particular conspiracy minded persuasion to not look at the real issues. The perpetrators sell fear cheap for a few dozen votes but hey, every vote counts in a democracy, even the vote of the crazy paranoides.

By the by; as someone whoes job it is to contributes to the formation of foreign policy of the US and other governments on DR and Haiti I can assure you all with a high degree of authority that NO WHERE is there a plan to fuse the two nations! Quit using Internet whack job sources as "facts"!

Balaguer was the one that introduced the idea of fusing both countries in order to promote racism against the black Dominican candidates. In the past, the US tried to annex the DR to USA under US control. Liberty, Equality, Power: A History of American People Fourth Edition page 453 says: "The irregular procedures by which his private secretary had negotiated a treaty to annex Santo Domingo (now the Dominican Republic) alienated leading Republican senators, who defeated ratification of the treaty." The US also tried to annex Canada around 1867. The US always had the politic of expansionism adopted from Europe.
