Santo Domingo.- Former Navy commander Carlos E. Rossó yesterday decided to go voluntarily to the United States to face charges of protecting boats used by drug traffickers to send large shipments of narcotics to that country.

The ex officer made the decision after being subjected to an intense interrogation in the Justice Ministry’s Extraditions Department.

Once Rossó stated his willingness before a notary public, the case was handed over to the Supreme Court, which asked him if he agreed to be extradited voluntarily. Once the accused agreed, the justices ruled for the extradition.

The former Navy officer fled the country to Haiti on September 13, and tried to reach Colombia. In Haiti he obtained forged documents to change his identity and his name to Angel Bolivar Alcántara Perez.
