Santo Domingo. - Police investigators have linked the little known organization “Solidarity Nation” to at least five kidnappings since 2000, including the latest, Eduardo Baldera, son of a businessman in Nagua (north).

Among the group’s alleged ringleaders was Cecilio Diaz, killed Saturday together with William Batista alias Checo, after Baldera’s escape from the house in which he was held near the town Villa Vásques.

Two rap sheets quoted by news source listin.com.do identify Diaz with the aliases Manuel, Sibilio or Lilo, and as a “guerrilla in El Salvador” and linked to two other kidnappings, one in November, 2005 called the Gringo Case, in Santiago, and another in San Francisco, or the Lantigua Case, in November last year, as well as assaults and robberies of exchange houses, banks and other businesses.

He’s considered “founder and leader of the subversive movement Gregorio Luperón” and has actively participated in several leftist organizations in the past.

In Batista’s rap sheet, also alias Ramon, he figures in a bank robbery and an attempted kidnapping in 1996 and as part of the group Gregorio Luperón and of the nationwide organization Falpo, known for staging violent strikes.

The investigators say the MO in Baldera’s kidnapping is similar to the four previous ones. The kidnappers had handcuffs, guns, compasses, military garb and forged documents.

A comparison of five kidnappings; the Ulerio Case in San Francisco in August 2000, the Capellan Case, in Santiago, in August 2002, the Gringo Case, in November 2005, the Lantigua Case in San Francisco in November 2008 and the Baldera Case shows the following similarities:

- They took place between the months August and November in a defined territorial line, from Santiago to Nagua.

- They were perpetrated at night between 8 and 9 p.m..

 - In all there was a ransom demand of an average of 3 million dollars, although RS$1.5 million was paid for Ulerio; US$1.1 million for Capellan; RD$3 million for Lantigua and nothing for el Gringo and Baldera.

- The five kidnappings were in residences, with the use of stolen vehicles, military garb, assault rifles and violence.

- In all five cases they left cassettes with the voice of the victim as “proof of life” for their relatives, called from public telephones and at the end of the ordeal, used  cell phones, in some cases acquired to make just one call to thwart being located by Police.

Interesting...with this information one can conclude that the police action of killing the supposed kidnappers could have been politically motivated.

Bluballsky, this information is VERY relevant to what transpired with regards to said kidnappers. Not only where they criminals in they eyes of what passes for Dominican justice but they were also "subversives". Two bullets a piece for each offense.

No gaz, it is from a Tom Clancey novel.. Someone is giving these charachers too much credit (and intelligence). I doubt they could even read or write their own names....btw, where did old man Baldera get that kind of money. I knew him when he was just a lonely money changer in Nagua with nothing (very little). and that was not too many years ago. hummmmmmm?

This sounds so made up!!!
I know truth is stranger than fiction but just sounds like hoopla to me!!

A leftist movement involved in kidnappings? Unless the are extorting money from narco traffickers I just don't see it.
It seems like every unsolved kidnapping in the region was pinned on these guys.

I mean I read the Listin's article but as we all know they are very biased.

What really ticks me off is that they always kill the suposed criminals and no one ever knows what they have to say.

I mean A leftist group in DR is believeable but still they make it sound that its just a bunch of criminals under a pretext of political reform.

what do you guys think?

After 23 years in exile, Juan Bosch returned to his homeland when Trujillo was assassinated on May 30, 1961. His presence in the national political life, as the Dominican Revolutionary Party presidential candidate, was a fresh change for the Dominicans. His manner of speaking, direct and simple, especially when addressing the lowest classes, appealed the farmers as much as the people from the cities.

Immediately he was accused by the Church and by conservatives of being a communist, but in the electoral match of December 20, 1962, Bosch obtained a sweeping triumph over his main oppositor Viriato Fiallo of the National Civic Union, in what is acknowledged to be the first free election in the country's history.

Bosch immediately launched a deep restructuring of the country. On April 29, he promulgated a new liberal constitution. The new document granted the people freedoms they had never known. Among other things, it declared specific labour rights, and mentioned unions, pregnant women, homeless people, the family, rights for the child and the young, for the farmers, and for illegitimate children.
Written by: time2rize, 17 Oct 2009 3:27 PM

However, Bosch faced powerful enemies. He moved to break up latifundia, drawing the ire of landowners. The Roman Catholic Church thought Bosch was trying to oversecularize the country. Industrialists didn't like the new Constitution's guarantees for the working class. The military, who previously enjoyed free rein, felt Bosch put them on too short a leash. In addition, the United States was skeptical of even a hint of left-leaning politics in the Caribbean after Fidel Castro openly declared himself a Communist.

Written by: vacanos, 19 Oct 2009 3:45 PM

-No sé.
