SANTO DOMINGO.- The antinarcotics authorities seized 25 packages of cocaine airdropped to the sea from a small plane near La Romana (east), the Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) said today, one at least one dozens cases so far this year.

A military aircraft pursued the small plane after it was detected in Dominican airspace, which prevented it from dropping the load, added the statement.

DNCD president Rolando Rosado affirmed that the drug was going to be airdropped in the National Park of the East, near the seaside town Bayahibe, "but the pursuit mounted by military helicopters prevented it and the small plane’s occupants saw themselves forced to drop it, apparently on the sea."

He said a wide sweep is being conducted in the zone to detain any suspect and recover the drug, on which the Agency "has good information of the operation." He added that one man identified as the Haitian national Thomas Leget is being held in the case.

The latest case brings the number of drug airdrops over Dominican coasts to at east 12. this year.

Its mid-October and this is only the 12th verified airdrop of the year?!

If 25 kilos were dropped each time, that's less than $5MM worth of blow in the DR. A laughable figure if we dare imagine how much of this stuff truly passes through the DR in a month!

Agree with you, Santana 33.

DR officials only telling people how great the work they have been done, yet they do not understand or lack of common sense, when the figures release, only make people laugh at them for their nonsense saying.

So they gave up 50 lbs of product. As the Bernardo Fifes of the DR police watched them fall from the sky, 50,000 pounds was driven right by them on the way to Santo Domingo unloaded off a boat docked in the Rio Dulce....

No report of them catching the plane or the $100,000USD air dropped to the Chief of Police for letting it all happen. Wait til they figure out the shoe shine boys are really look outs training to work the street corners with dreams of delivering SUVs full of packed powder to the drug lords of Santo Domingo.

Right, what ever happened to the $10,000,000.00 U.S. Super Tucanos? That's the price tag for each one. Will they ever get here?

ok...what will they do with it? They will fill sacks with arina de trigo and tape it while it burns, keeping the real thing and doing you know what with it.

What is scaring me at the moment is... How are we going to pay all of that money Leonel is borrowing?...oh right, he won't be in power at that time, he wouldn't worry about that, but I am.

"How are we going to pay all of that money Leonel is borrowing?..."

I think the second METRO line is going to be even more profitable than the cost effective Chicharron Express and that should take care of it, so stop worrying.

LIE-onel Fernandez is the smartest Dominican to have ever been born, he is got it ALL under control, if you know what I mean!
