Santo Domingo. - The ruling PLD and the opposition PRSC and PRD parties said they‘ll investigate the cases of the pre-candidates to detect those whom could have links with drug trafficking or other legal impediment.

PLD Electoral Commission coordinator Alejandrina German, in reference to a denunciation by Marino Vinicio Castillo regarding candidates involved in drug trafficking, said that “if some pre-candidate has some legal impediment which affects their aspirations, by all means they’ll be notified of the impossibility.”

PRSC president Carlos Morales affirmed that his organization will not let pass any candidate who is linked to drug trafficking and hailed Castillo’s alert to the country, while PRD president Miguel Vargas also pledged drastic actions to prevent the registry of pre-candidates with links to drug trafficking and other illicit activities.

Yesterday the Justice and Transparency Foundation, headed by Trajano Vidal Potentini, also asked the parties to implement mechanisms to prevent those candidacies and also asked the Electoral Board apply stricter controls.

HOW ABOUT THEY PLEDGE TO STOP BUYING VOTES!!!

These types of gestures are only lip service with the sole purpose to maintain the status quo!

A very simple policy that should be adopted should be, any candidate who can be convicted for "Vote Buying" or "clientelist" practices should be band for TWO electoral periods. And parties should be fined $1,000,000 for EACH proven party-sponsored clientelist practice.

lets see if the parties are willing to adopt anything close to that!

"those whom could have links with drug trafficking"

That's a godawful lot of people, it means that anyone that knows a pusher , or even a pothead, would be excluded.

Great! a world without politicians.

Hey political parties:

You don't have to look any further than your regular members to find a bunch of criminals. Or is it that drug related crimes are bad and any other type of crime is OK?
