The Dominican Congress has become a street market.
SANTO DOMINGO.- The wave of rejection against several articles of the Constitutional Reform grows, as the civic group Citizen Participation (PC) calls a “mutilation” and the Herrera industrial business leaders describe as “shameless.”
Yesterday PC said the Constitution the National Assembly is approving has mutilated more than 10 citizen rights found in the current Magna Charta and warned that if the lawmakers continue their course, the Constitution which finally surges will not guarantee governance, whereas the entity’s coordinator Samir Chami Isa affirmed it would even be illegal.
He said this week PC will begin, in coordination with other organizations, a series of actions to repudiate some articles approved by the lawmakers, who are subjected to the agreement between president Leonel Fernandez and opposition PRD party president Miguel Vargas.
They said the senior political leaders have “reduced their legitimacy in the new Constitution” when denying public the services and benefits of public properties, such as the access to beaches and rivers
Business leaders
Dominican Republic’s medium and small industries warned of “the dangerous institutional involution” which in their view has materialized with a constitutional reform they say has become the receptor of the political deals and for the convenience of factual powers.
The Herrera Industrial Association and the Santo Domingo Province Industrial Association Federation (FAI) expressed their alarm with the new Constitution, in which the country’s political leadership had promised was a democratic revolution, has become a step backwards.
“We’re faced with a shameless Constitution, a recipient of political interests, which has curtailed citizens rights and has tacitly yielded the transparency in public administration,” the said in a joint statement on Sunday.

Is anybody surprised that we are going backwards? Look at who is making our decisions for us.
What can we expect when the population allows a politician to campaign by giving out dollars. No policy statement, no platform, nothing.

Well of course it has to be a recipient of political interests and of course it has to be shameless because it is being initiated by politicians .nearly all whom have no skill or experience in this matter.
Would it be too much to ask that the constitution be drafted by the foremost legal minds, whether they are on the judiciary or in private practice and given to the people and the politicians for their approval.
Remember that last week senators voted incorrectly because they did not understand what they were voting on

shameless = Off with their Heads!

Our representation in the government is so shameless and corrupt they are going to cause their own demise. While they are busy taking our rights and stealing our money they better keep in mind there are more of us than them. When enough of us get together and decide we dont want them in power anymore there wont be anything they can do about it.

Ricardolito, I am surprised, but pleased with your reply.
The far majority of your politicians are awarded their post for their support/nepotism/extortion.
I doubt if any have a high school diploma and have NEVER really worked at doing the job they are assigned.
The Dominican Republic needs ALL new young blood that has working credentials. And I do not mean in the drug trade.

This country is teethering.....I hope these fools are around to feel the full effect of what they're doing. I hope their heads feel the weight of the masses when the people finally wake up and realize that El pueblo has the power to make changes if they get involved; one way or another. Do we not have any leaders capable of inspiring our people to revolt against the desecration of our State?

Guillermo Moreno Presidente 2012!

gmiller I totally agree that fresh new blood, that is untainted , would be a wonderful tonic for this country and I believe would be the turning point as the international community saw that we were no longer a typical latin corrupt country.
I am surprised that you are surprised as I do not hold any political party in much regard here ..but I do think our President has done a lot for us except for being too soft on the traditional corrupt practices here. He was the best of the bunch at the last election and I am not an habitual knocker of achievements .

Ricky always bring up the REAR, if you know what I mean!
From: United States
Ricardo, i have news for you. the biggest problem in this country is CORRUPTION. it germinates all the others. so there is no electricity, because CDEE is run by goons and thugs. there is no education because all the people in that ministry steal the funds earmarked for construction, materiel, and books, not to mention salaries. the health services are woeful because those in the ministry steal everything set aside for that department. and so on, and so on, and so on. so, if Leonel has been ¨too soft on corruption¨, then he has done ASOLUTELY NOTHING for us. do not be blinded by a subterranean locomotive which is a dismal failure, as predicted by some of us.

Over the last week I have been to several hospitals here in la Romana and in the capital and the health service has been wonderful and in that regard,Cuba has been wonderful in providing us with expert staff to support the young Dominican doctors.Medicine is readily available here in the DR also and at much cheaper prices than in Europe or the USA. I see all the new roads and bridges and a population that is not angry or in desperation so I can only assume that the theft is not nearly as bad as you are dreaming of .

The great contribution to the Latin world from Cuba has been the supply of highly qualified doctors and there have been many articles written about this ..quite something for the Cubans to be proud of

Ricky,
You are correct, but the point wasn't about the quality of Cuban doctors, the point is why is it that in country that has "free trade,” no embargo like Cuba, a smaller population, and a Diaspora that contributes billions of dollars to the economy, it still has to have another country come in shore up its deplorable health care system?
Especially when you and the other Lie-onelitas say things are so great in METROLANDIA under the leadership of the miracle from the Caribbean!

dreaming? yes, keep judging everything by the places you see in Arroyo Hondo and La Romana, and one day you will wake up to a big surprise. at least to you, anyway. hey, when the secretary of education, who came from humble means lives in a 50 million peso mansion, then only comatose people do not furrow their brows in consternation. in the USA, cops that drive fancy cars get investigated. to you, it is their business.

If the services are wonderful why did the Cuban doctors have to come?
