Santo Domingo. - Another Colombian detained by Immigration and antinarcotics (DNCD) agent was extradited to Puerto Rico yesterday afternoon to face drug trafficking charges.

Harvey Bermudez Lasso was placed on a United States Drugs Enforcement Administration plane at Las Americas International Airport, the DNCD said in a statement.

It’s the second Colombian extradited to the U.S., after Luis Santacruz Echeverri (Lucho), reportedly an important member of the once powerful Cali Cartel, was flown to New York last week.

Bermudez, detained at the start of the month in Santo Domingo’s Malecon, will face charges of conspiracy to import cocaine, in Puerto Rico’s U.S. District court.

“He was a very important fugitive arrested by the Immigration Agency, assisted by the DNCD,” the statement adds.

Dude! what can a colombian be possibly doing in the DR? What types of business are they trying to setup! This is not rocket science. Get a head count on all colombians living in the DR find out where they are and investigate them. Yes, profile the hell out of them because the fit the description.

We still need to be civil about things and avoid profiling. Hispanics and Dominicans do not like to be profiles in the US, therefore, we should not apply the same rules. There are many Colombians in DR that are simply there to make a living, working as secretaries, free trade zones, and in the overall service sector. Should the DR keep a close eye on immigrants in general that come to live to the DR? Yes, but let people live.
