Santo Domingo.- Former Progreso bank president Pedro Castillo arrived in San Cristobal’s Najayo prison yesterday afternoon to serve the 10 year sentence after his RD$14 billion fraud conviction.

Castillo arrived at the penitentiary at 4:30 p.m. under strict security, where he joins the former heads of other major banks serving sentences for fraud convictions, including Ramon Baez Figueroa, of Baninter, Manuel A. Pellerano, of Bancredito, among others.

At 4:50 p.m. arrived his brothers and his lawyer Jorge Luis Polanco, who called the Supreme Court sentence “a plagiarism.”

Castillo was escorted to Najayo after appearing before Sentencing judge Saulo Diaz, whom had earlier cautioned him to avoid an arrest warrant and turn himself in voluntarily.

What sort of prison is this? Typical Dominican “fight for your life or die” kind of prison? How do I know he will stay there for the next 10 years? Glad to see this happen and I hope there is more of it.

Iron: In the states, more than likely he would be walking by now! Same sort of "rampant corruption", but it seems to be tolerated more.

All they need is for LIE-onel Fernandez to rescind the pardon to Vivian Castillo and they can continue to run their criminal enterprises from behind “bars!"

Yes, it would be comical to imagine how "macho" these plump, rich white Dominicans would behave within the general prison population, however unlikely it is.
