Santo Domingo. – In an unprecedented development in the case of the fugitives Sobeida Felix and her alleged paramour the Puerto Rican drug trafficker Jose Figueroa Agosto, president Leonel Fernandez last night personally instructed the Armed Forces and the Justice Ministry to heighten the search to locate and apprehend them.

The chief executive said the escape of the two suspects in the case of the confiscation of 4.5 million dollars from Felix and other properties allegedly owned by Figueroa mocks Dominican society.

Fernandez, who headed an emergency meeting of more than two hours with senior authorities last night, regretted that the law enforcement agencies handled the case with such deficiency that it led to Felix’s and Figueroa’s escape, for which he issued precise orders to detain Felix and Figueroa.

Presidency Chief of staff Cesar Pina, who provided the details on the meeting, said Fernandez instructed the Justice Ministry, the National Police, the Drugs Control Agency, the National Investigations Agency and the Armed Forces to coordinate the necessary efforts to capture the fugitives.

Nobody mocks Dominican society as much as our President does.

This is what happens when you compromise and let bribes, kick-backs and the "pay-to-play" drug system corrupt your society and law enforcement.

I have been writing for year... many years as most know. That this will have many negative spillover costs to our county the USA and many good Americans and our quality of life. This is just one example of how our DEA in la capital do not worry about the Dominican micro-traffickers for many years who work along with RD Gov officials. Now, these guys have a hiding network for this fugative as long as his money and influence hold out. There drug dealers in Santiago that can easily smuggle this fugitive and his money into Haiti.

What does this loose law enforcement work say for our US agencies as well? As evident based on current history... you guys still just don't get it.

"fugitives mock Dominican society"

Not nearly as much as your transparent corruption, nepotism and general amoral behavior.

In most civilized country 90% of the people charged with a crime receive jail sentences and or fines.

In the DR it is the other way around and ONLY the poorer criminals pay.

The upper class have an inbred entitlement mentality and LF your are the cause.

Check out the picture of the judge that let this fugitive go free. Nice that she brings her religion along with her.

Personally I find that the most visibly religious people are generally the least religious.

Say all you want about fernandez, but I'll take him 1000 times over Hipolito! You can focus on the negative, but he has done plenty of positive things in his tenure.

Lopez31,

You're right Ferni over Hipo any time. Yeah, he is showing the international community that DR wants to get into debt and now every country wants to lend(with bad intention). But, he still forgot about the children with out education. Its a shame that other countries have to give moneies to educate a had full of our children. His Transparency on Corruption sucks. the politicians still run-a-muck of the system.

When do you think he is going to sit in front of the dominican people and truthfully explain how is all the monies borrowed will be paid back(where is the plan) and explain why or how come he couldn't alocate 2million dollars from every project he signs off on for EDUCATION.

Lopez31,

Did you know that with less than 2million dollars you can buy 2 million black/white composition books and 5 million pencils. He could have raised more than 15 million dollars for education with all the projects that have been completed or in the works, projects that are being overpaid for. No matter what he is still a HOSEBAG.
