SANTO DOMINGO.- The deadline to renew motor vehicle license plate stickers expired yesterday with 447,338 autos still didn’t update or a 43% procrastination rate, and whose owners will have to pay a RD$600 surcharge, for a total of RD$268.4 million.
Moreover the Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET) has “an entire platform prepared to retain the vehicles which circulate without the 2009 label,” said its public relations director Miguel Medina.
He said the vehicles retained will be taken to the El Coco greyhound track and to several AMET impound lots nationwide, and their owners will have to pay a RD$1,000 fine as the Transit Law stipulates.
As occurred in the past, the motorists -1,051,708 of whom have yet to renew- no longer request an extension and some allege that “there’s no money in the streets” as their reason for procrastinating.

I mean i can see if the money was put in use by maintaining, the infrastructure of roads and streets, like fixing all the potholes, putting street lights where needed, road signs , reflectors on the road etc..
You mean 43% of Dominican motorists didn't expire? Do I understand 57% did?
Funereraria Blandino's share just went up.

The DR needs to change the system of assigning marbetes because it is complicated and produces many problems. It is better to send renew notice to the clients as they expire and not by mass renewal.

Also it will be nice if it was done like every 3 years or something without increasing the prices.
