Santo Domingo.- The opposition party deputy who’s been involved in several scandals, including his admission of having sexual relations with a minor, has desisted from seeking reelection for Santiago Rodriguez province (northwest).

Julio Romero, who also fathered a boy with the minor and later faced a child support lawsuit filed by the mother, has also seen his situation complicated when a National Drugs Control Agency report affirmed that during a search of a discotheque in November of 2007, the lawmaker was found together with recognized drug traffickers, among them Manuel Emilio Mesa Beltré (El Gringo) and Rafael Cordero Martinez (El Chino).

Romero, of the PRD party, has denied being in the company of the drug traffickers, and revealed his decision not to seek reelection during a meeting in his party’s headquarters on Tuesday.
