Santo Domingo. - The Government aims to seriously prosecute energy theft while the multilateral financial organisms stress the elimination of the generalized subsidy and improved administrative efficiency to lower losses, of as high as 35%.
With that backdrop the heads of the three electricity distributors, the Electricity Superintendent and the executive vice-president of the State-owned power companies (CDEEE) meet today.
The meeting seeks to curb electricity theft, for which they’ve pledged to publish staring today, the names of those who don’t regularize their situation of have illegal connections.
In a statement the officials say the participants include Superintendent Electricity Francisco Méndez,; CDEEE chief Celso Marranzini, Electricity prosecutor Moisés Ferrer and the administrators of the distributors EDE-Este, Rubén Bichara; Edenorte Felix Tavares, and Edesur, Lorenzo Ventura.
Law 186-07 which penalizes electricity theft took effect on February 20, and since then around 300 cases have been analyzed and more than 200 people have been charged with irregularities with the intent to alter their real consumption.
