Higüey. - In a raid headed by Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) chief Rolando Rosado in a sugarcane plantation today agents seized a small, Venezuelan registry plane presumably loaded with drugs, for which a Dominican and two Colombians were detained.

The authorities have yet to specify the amount of the drugs seized from the suspects identified as the Dominican Wilkin Canden, 29, and the Colombians Pedro Alonso, 30, and Alexander Vásquez, 22.

Rosado said the Tactical Reaction Unit’s (URT) quick intervention kept the plane from taking off, after the detainees had tried to refuel the white, 4 passenger, single motor craft marked with the letters YVEE. He said it only had one seat, since the others were taken out to make more room for what is so far unknown, presumably drugs or money.

Also seized were a 12-gauge shotgun with illegible numeration, a Murano and a Toyota SUV, both without no plates; a black Runner pick truck, plate # L260580; two power plants used to illuminate a makeshift runway and 14 fuel canisters.

Rosado, accompanied by military, police and Higüey officials comb the zone in search of possible accomplices and question the detainees about the drug’s destination.

Careful not to upset abc's hero: Chavez.

LF is in bed with this loco and too dependent on his money, some of which doesn't necessarily originate from oil. Was the JC/LF marriage one of convenience: a little oil for free passage for drugs, with some minor personal token tax collection-of course! Huh, you have to wonder.

I simply couldn't see how in a country with a strongman rule, like Venezuela, anything could happen without his knowledge.

It's nearly 500 miles from the southern DR to the most nort-western part of Venezuela, which I believe is beyond the range of the Cessna 172 in the picture, especially if it was carrying the max load of @ 400 pounds. This plane had to land somewhere else before heading to the DR.

Very good catch there i did a little research and this planes can only go 790 miles at 55% load which the 500 miles trip puts it out of range for the max capacity that it was carrying. The only possible route would be island hoping thru trinida,Dominica,Puerto Rico and then DR since it was Found in Higuey or Maybe is was found at the end of the route and this plane really came thru Riohacha to isla beata and was later found in Higuey is makes more sense since they would be taking a lot more chances by going island hoping but who knows we must remember a lot of those small island don't even have armies that can detect those planes anyways and getting thru Puerto Rico is not a hard task as we know either. Anyways who knows which route is being taken here.

DR1 left out one other type of busines with Columbia that is being actively pursued:

Colombian business mission
President Leonel Fernandez has held a meeting with Colombian business leaders interested in doing business in the DR. It was agreed that a Dominican government mission would travel to Colombia in January to study the feasibility of several projects. Eddy Martinez, of the Center for Exports and Investment (CEI-RD) said that the Colombians are interested in building roads and housing in the DR, and in investing in a number of sectors including electricity, health, farming, food production, tourism, ports and installing natural gas dispensers. Dominican ambassador in Colombia Angel Lockward accompanied the 28-member Colombian mission.

Went back and read story and all I found was that plane was of Venezuelan registry, and two Colombians and one Dominican were involved.

Since plane only had one seat, we should probably assume that it was piloted by one of the Colombians. This would mean that the other Colombian was working locally.

Assuming that above contributors are correct, it would be very risky to try to make Venezuela land mass in one hop, because of aircraft range. Perhaps this plane originated from Cuba and not Venezuela and that's where it's headed. That would make more sense, being that Castro brothers are in king-sized bed with Chavez. That seems plausible to me.

1st off. The plane was a Cessna C-206, not a C-172. This is clear as you can see the double doors open in the foto. It can carry 6 persons. It has a cargo capacity of 1,400 lbs. Range of 600 nm. 92 gallons of fuel. The pilot seat is the only one he needs to fly the plane. This plane is known to fly with whatever you put in it. You would also overload it and it will fly. Recall the One from Romana to PR that crashed near PR and all 6 aboard killed. That had to do with the weight distribution (CG) and manuverability in bad weather. So I would say they brought in about 700 kilos =1540 lbs + 540 lbs fuel + 350 lbs persons with no problem. Of course they did not get the drugs just the plane while being preped to go back. The Venezuela registry means nothing, they fly from Colombia which is closer. Go by the crew nationality not registration.

Who needs CSI when the Dominican Today Detectives are on the case? But who is the master mind? Not these three...
