San Cristobal, Dominican republic.- Motorists yesterday began to use the first section of 14 kilometers of the San Cristóbal-Baní highway, whereas Public Works minister Victor Diaz said the remaining 14 kilometers would be concluded in the next few months.
He said he instructed the contractors to open the span to traffic for motorists, in addition to the four lanes already concluded.
The official said the highway’s work plan aims to conclude the sections under construction with proper signs and with railings, and eliminating the bottlenecks to prevent accidents. Other works include the cementing of rising slopes, construction of lateral drains, and the placement of base material prior to the asphalt.
The highway contractors are the companies Malespín and JM, whereas Tecnoamérica is the technical supervision.
Equipment and crews now work in the remaining 14 kilometers, finishing sections and removing topsoil, in addition to reconditioning the old two-lane highway to continue its expansion to four.
The highway is built for speeds of around 100 kilometers per hour and has a six inch concrete asphalt layer.

lets just hope it does not become like the Santiago to SAJOMA or Santiago to POP.
