The latest narcotics bust.

SANTO DOMINGO. – U.S. officials warned on Thursday that Dominican Republic and Haiti have become the main bridges to traffic drugs from Venezuela to his country and Europe, a criminal link which includes West Africa and the Caribbean.
David T. Johnson, Under Secretary of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs said Venezuela has shown little interest in halting the illegal flights which take Colombian cocaine from its territory to the U.S. and Europe.
“There’s not much evidence that the Venezuelans have taken strong measures to fight this," Johnson said to the Caracas newspaper “Ultimas Nocicias,” adding that his country’s challenge is to “really achieve productive efforts of cooperation with the Venezuelans to control this."
He said drug traffickers in Colombia, many linked to the FARC guerillas, are using neighboring Venezuela as a transshipment route to move drugs in the Caribbean, Africa, Central America and Mexico, to the United States and Europe.

Tell us something we did not already know. The DR has a thriving drug business. I have read people dispute how this drug money has sustained the country through the global recession and they can argue all they want but drug money is a MAJOR economic influence on the DR economy. Remember Miami in the 80's this is the DR right now. We can see what the future will hold in about 15-20 years we will go through the same phase as Miami did.Maybe sooner.

Sadly, there are some who will take pride on this notoriety.
I, for one, don't care for this dirty money that corrupts our youth and compromises our future and standing in the eyes of the world. We are in effect sacrificing morality and respect for short-term financial gains. Could our goal be to sink lower than Somalia?
We must crawl out of this morass no matter the cost, and reacquaint ourselves with integrity, morality and respect, and build a worthy society. If we continue down this path, then we will just be another lawless country and a laughing stock. Mexico and Colombia have already realized this fact, and they are expending considerable effort to eradicate drugs.......perhaps one day they will succeed.

It is time for men of honor to rise up and be counted and organize and fight for everything we cherish and appreciate, and for the perpetuation of the ideals that gave birth to our nation and the shed blood of Duarte, Sanchez y Mella and the many worthy others who came after them. We must resist the corruptive temptations of this dirty money, which prostitutes us as a nation, and eliminate the elements promoting this wretched path.

lol josean... that is correct. you can find all of the bad things in all schools in the best area's of every country on earth. The parents have to be aware and not let children get out of control.

Josean,
The message is: Is way much easier to blame someone else for all the problems illegal drugs create in our societies. If parents in the US would care a bit more about their kids, drug consumption will decrease, so the illegal business.

...Let me add, that If crooked politicians and military personnel cared more about the kids in their respective countries, drug consumption will decrease.
Parents can do a lot, but when the flaw is in the culture itself, it's a losing battle.
