Santo Domingo.- The ruling PLD party on Friday announced Rafael Calderon as its Azua province (south) senatorial candidate for next year’s elections, after the ex senior leader of the opposition PRD had expelled him on Wednesday.

The PLD’s senior echelon, the Political Committee made Calderon’s designation official in a press conference in its offices in Santo Domingo, where the former PRD leader affirmed that his decision to quit his former party was final and didn’t depend on the ruling party’s decision.

“Regardless of the outcome of the PLD leadership’s decision on the Azua candidacy, I chose to leave the PRD and join the effort of the PLD, which is called upon to reach the great goals of the Dominican people,” said the Economy Minister during Hipolito Mejia's Presidency (2000-2004).

After Calderon’s departure from the PRD, several of that party’s senior leaders, including Virgilio Bello Rosa, the lawyer of PRD president Miguel Vargas, have called him a “turncoat.”

The PLD picks up the trash from PRD!

The LIE-onelitas here at DT should be very upset that LIE-onel Fernandez has opened the doors to a protégé of that Neanderthal Hipolito Mejia!

I thought the PLD was pure and only had the best of the best in its ranks.

What Hypocrites!

The Economy Minister for Mejia? He was one of the primary architects of the worst economic policies ever put in place here. He and Hippo should be in adjoining cells.

I have to agree with josean and juanb as Calderón is the worst toxic trash and megacorruptor in DR politics today.
This inept and fumbling ex-minister for Hipoloco, was the worst fable maker and spent his four years in his private toll gate business. He then took refuge in the congress, after investing "mucho mojo" to protect himself from any legal repercussions.
Now the PLD picks up his sorry face thinking he might be an asset for them, Wrong!
This guy is a "fucú" and wherever he goes a black cloud follows. He is jinks and a curse to anyone that gets near him. He was one of the principal reasons for Hipoloco Mejia's stupid moves, as Hipoloco relied on him a lot.
I forecast the Azuanos will elect a member of the PRD instead of this slime ball.

Miami/Santiago,
La politica Dominicana sigue siendo simplemente absurda. Tenemos un desarrollo technologico del siglo 21 y a la misma ves tenemos un desarollo politico que no llega al siglo 19 -- si al caso. Sabra leer ese tigere? As I always say: sometimes it's exhausting being Dominican. WTF, over -- Leonel?
