Santo Domingo. – The United States Commercial Attaché yesterday said his country is satisfied with the success of the National Police and the Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) in Dominican Republic’s war on drug trafficking.
Christopher Lambert said the war on drug trafficking continues being a shared priority, noting that president Barack Obama announced the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative in the Summit of the Americas, for which he has asked the U.S. Congress to approve US$45 million this year.
He revealed that Dominican Republic had accepted the program and hosted a meeting on that initiative last month. “The United States applauds the success that the National Police and the Drugs Control Agency have had in the increase in the number of narcotics traffickers who’ve been arrested in the last three months. The cocaine seizures so far this year have exceeded three tons, a 25 increase percent over the annual average of this last decade.”
The diplomat affirmed that in the country “large amounts of other drugs have also been seized, like extasy and marijuana,” and acknowledged that the prosecution of drug traffic ringleaders has led to the confiscation of a large amount of assets originating from drug trafficking.
Lambert was the invited speaker in the American Chamber of Commerce’s traditional Thanksgiving day luncheon, where he addressed the topic “The United States, the Dominican Republic and the World Economic Crisis: Transformational opportunity towards the 21st century,” held yesterday in the Jaragua hotel.
The American official said his country is working in different topics, many of which require international cooperation and noted Obama’s commitment, before the UN General Assembly, that the United States aims to work with the international community to embrace a new era based on mutual interest and respect, which means that his country hopes to work as equals with the Americas to face the challenges ahead together.

There were supposed to be here in November.........Que pasa?
They busted more, of course they did. Since the Merida accords, shipping through Mexico has become next to impossible, so they went back to Carlos Lehder Rivas´ old methods in the early eighties in Norman Key and just bury us with the blow. Some goes through, some doesn´t, but the upside is so large they can afford to lose a big percentage and still make tons of money.
War on drugs is a politician's marketing cliche. Real war would involve military deployed at large scale at all possible points of retail (parks, schoolyards, discos etc etc), shooting the enemy (pusher), death penalty for war criminals, jail time for users (composing with the enemy) etc etc.
The Malaysian/Thai/Chinese method, more or less. But it will never be aplied, neither here or in the US, too much big money and legit jobs at stake. The Tucanos biz is a drug s

Ah yes, the memories...turquoise waters, fresh lobster and conch, ice cold Kalik beers...the runway lit up at night by flashlights.....those were the days.
A Yola can out sail the Seventh Fleet....
WHY?
Because it's a Big Ocean..
Anyway... The fix is in and has been for a long long time.
Only little dope runners still use airplanes...
Cargo ships, submarines, Falcon jets are the way of the Future..
WAIT./..If the US Government wants to really know how to stop the drug trafficking...
Why not ask the Biggest Dope runner of all...Oliver North and his wrecking Crew???
Oh that's right ...He smuggles for the GOP...sic

The Yankees need the drug trade to keep off paying huge welfare benefits, who would not doubt increase if drugs were finally a non-issue!
Only by ill trained, ill equipped, bad weather and unwilling pilots to engage in a hostile situation.
Fire warning shots with a short 3-5 sec. burst of tracer / AP 50 caliber rounds and if one gets no response SHOT TO KILL therefore the only "heap of rubble floating in the sea" would be the airborne drug smugglers.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but.......
America's 1960's type of socialist youth rebellion coupled with the belief that they would CHANGE the world.........Now that there the ones in power/control which leaves one to wonder ARE WE REALLY BETTER OFF ? and to think it all started with a lush appetite for drugs that started this problem, this mess........You mean a failure to respond to the problem in a harsh timely manner in the first place.
