SANTO DOMINGO.- Peravia province (south) senator Wilton Guerrero called “gangster” the jurisdiction’s Governor Bienvenido Montero, who reportedly absconded with 29 ballot boxes of the Electoral Central Board.

The scandal is the latest in the ruling PLD party, whose fierce competition for candidacies in the May 16 elections has led to bitter internal disputes.

The PLD legislator said against people who act as political “gangsters,” the country’s laws must be enforced and the party’s rules and an iron fist applied

He accused Montero of using his Government post to mock Dominican society, the PLD and the country’s climate of democratic coexistence.

“Leaning on the forces the State, the forces of the Government of which he’s president Leonel Fernandez’s representative and boasting that representation of president Fernandez and acting in his name, that gentleman has absconded with 29 electoral valises (boxes) that belong to the Central Electoral Board and which aren’t even property of the PLD,” Guerrero said interviewed on Z-101 FM radio.

The lawmaker affirmed that for valises allegedly taken, the Peravia province Governor could be charged by the Electoral court. “No type of contemplation is needed with that gentleman because there’s no need to have contemplations with a gangster anywhere other than to enforce the law.”

He said Montero must be summarily expelled from the party, “and if I were the President, dismissed immediately, because if he weren’t because he’s the provincial governor he wouldn’t have done those misdeeds, making use of government officials, employees and the National Investigations Department (DNI).”

Josean:

Don't hold your breath. Criminal activity by government officials is the norm. It is condoned, promoted, and expected. Our government is running amuck.
