SANTO DOMINGO. - The company Consorcio Minero Dominicano announced it decided to relocate its planned cement plant just hours after the United Nations Development Program released the evaluation of the project, but slammed the alleged “manipulation” by a “cartel” which distributes cement quotas and sets prices.

"We have consistent discords on that report, clearly slanted, but we understand that nothing is gained by continuing with a discussion which already exceeds the framework of the legitimate business activity, for which we’ve chosen to locate the project in another place," the Santiago based company said in a statement.

Citing "legitimate interest of consumers" however, it said the cement business shouldn’t continue being “manipulated by a cartel that distributes quotas and sets prices in detriment of the most elementary principles of healthy competition."

Soar loosers, we all know that the cement from this plant was never going to be touched by ordinary Dominicans, it was all for export. This concosorcio can go to hell in a hand basket for I am sure that we will never forget their attempt to destroy los Haitises. We must exersice our rights as consumers and continue the boycott against these people to teach them a lesson.

One of my great pleasures recently has been to be driving behind a car with a "Los Haitises-Not Negotiable" stickers, watching the driver throw his trash into the street. And this has happened several times in the past couple of weeks. Or seeing the same sticker on a car belching out black smoke. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Apart from the comment from juanb what a stange lot of comments..1 that cartels that distributes quotas etc happens all over the world, 2 it can go to hell because it was all for export, 3 it can go to Haiti because there is cheap labour, and 4 close Cibao also .

It sounds exactly what the DR needs but was situated in the wrong place without adequate polution controls . Price setting within an industry is illegal in most developed countries and dthe law is well enforced. and yes the common Dominican is a dreadful polluter .

That so, boobala? It was about MONEY all along?
B-b-b-but the greenies and the UN?
They wouldn't front for Dominican cement cartels — w-w-would they?

Took you a darned good while to say so, only after you lost your case.
Pay more next time. Greenies go for gold.

The cement plant wasn't going to be built in Los Haitises national park as some in the media kept saying. It was in a town near the park, but yes, that's all they had to do a while ago, choose a new location. I find it very interesting how these "greenies" fought so hard to keep this plant from being built in a town outside the park, BUT haitians kept and keep cutting and burning trees INSIDE the park and no one cares. Just the other day the authorities caught 66 haitians doing that inside Los Haitises national park, yet I haven't seen anyone of those "ecologists" say anything about that.
