Santo Domingo.- The first two Super Tucano airplanes, of eight bought by the Government in Brazil, are ready for their flight to the Dominican Republic.
The intercept planes will be immediately deployed in the war on drug trafficking, once concluded the test and training process of the personnel who’ll operate them.
An Armed Forces source said the company Embraer, manufacturer of the popular craft, formally informed the authorities that "the trial flights of the first two A-29 Super Tucano have concluded and are ready for transfer to Santo Domingo, as the delivery agreement signed with Brazil stipulates, scheduled for the beginning of November."
“We are only awaiting the corresponding procedures and some authorizations on the components of the final user," the source said Wednesday night.

Well, this is a good thing, but if i am bringing drugs into the island and there are fighters and radar that can locate me, i will build a submarine of fiberglass that only cost about a million and will still bring the dough that way,,when are we getting Submarine and Frigate to combact that threat?

I need no stinkin' parachute.LOL.
Last paragraph in the article could be challenging for the DR as it reads:
"“We are only awaiting the corresponding procedures and some authorizations on the components of the final user," the source said Wednesday night.
This could mean US approval and end-user release permit of high tech components in the Tucano's, and now the question is since the US was not agreeable to the DR having these planes;
Would the US give their blessing, deny or play dumb and stall as long as possible?

Wouldn't it be good to buy some Combat helicopters aswell.

Dominican republic needs to create an organism of international parties who oversees the operation of these planes, no disrespect, but I do not trust DR politicians, police enforcement, Marina de guerra, Fuerzas armada, DNCD, you name it

Its about time they send these planes over its long over due. I hope they are used for what they are intended to do and I do hope they shoot down the planes as they said they would. It would definately be a big impact to these bastards selling drugs. I think they should impose capital punishment and kill those fucking drug dealers and i dont mean the small fry im talking about the big ones that reside in the country and work your way down.

I also believe the armed forces need to update themselves in technology and education as well as in tactics. So they can better protect OUR border and our waters.

But its great - I watched some re-enactment of the Battle of Britain - no Americans of course - at Duxford. The glory days of the Dominican Air Force are still to come but this time they will be better equipped to repel American invaders. It is amazing what can be done with a few aircraft...... and grond support - a 1000 dollar home made ground to air missile can down a warplane worth 100 million dollars. And 200 dollars worth of shredded aluminum foil can fool any radar.......

Tha American Air Museum at Duxford is a great place if you'r into planes like I am. I gotta say the glory days of the FAD are in the past. Under Trujillo, they flew Vampires, Mosquitos, Beaufighters, Thunerbolts and Mustangs and B-17's, all the stuff the RAF and the USAAF sold off cheap. Today, few countries want to buy used aircraft. It's just not cost effective, they come out better buying new, but fewer aircraft. I do think the U.S. government will put pressure on the DR as to how these planes will be used. So much fo soverignity.

Of course, if intercepting a target and the target is being co-ordinated by a yacht with a standard radar with 50 nm range and 30 deg vertical window then of course when the yacht observes you the target can take avoiding action. Also if there is a need to attack a plane and it is possible the plane has ground support....... Or you don't want the enemy to know where you are landing........

Guns ; and I'm sure when it is in service more armaments can be added.
The 314 b1 has 2x 12.7 mm FN Herstal M3P machine guns, 1x 20 mm cannon pod below the fuselage, 4x 70 mm rocket launcher pods, Conventional and intelligent bombs, 2x AIM-9 Sidewinder or MAA-1 Piranha or Python 3/4 air-to-air missiles and External stores on 5 hard-points. The problem is that on the ground planes are nearly defenseless. Hardened shelters and defended airports are necessary.

During the war, British Harrier aircraft lacked their conventional chaff dispensing mechanism.[8] Therefore Royal Navy engineers designed an impromptu delivery system of welding rods, split pins and string which allowed six packets of chaff to be stored in the airbrake well and be deployed in flight. It was often referred to as the "Heath Robinson chaff modification", due to its complexity.[9]

I guess this type of arrangement is popular among those seeking to escape detection! DR airforce should fit so it can aviod detection.
