Santo Domingo.– “We hope that with decision there won’t be any difficulties for
President Zelaya to leave Honduras and no conditions or obstructions
established by the de facto government so that he can travel to the
Dominican Republic”, pointed out President Leonel Fernandez.
The Dominican president said he trusts this formula will help
“overcome the situation” Honduras has been suffering since the June
28th coup and added that the “face to face” reunion will be preceded by
meetings he will be holding with both leaders: on Sunday with Zelaya
and on Monday with Lobo.
Meanwhile the Brazilian Foreign Office denied it had told Zelaya he
must leave the embassy in Tegucigalpa, where he remains holed in, by
January 27th when his presidential mandate officially ends.
Zelaya was ousted in a coup last June 28th and since then all
Latinamerica countries have demanded his reinstatement as legitimate
elected president. However the countries are divided regarding the
results of November 29th elections when a new president was elected,
according to the political calendar of the country.

Mr. Fernandez is so out of touch that his knowledge reflect that of a street coconut vendor. He must be aware that mr. Lobo was elected by the Honduran people and that mr. Zelaya is completely out of power at this point. the interesting thing about this whole fiasco is that Secretary Clinton was outflanked by the Michelleti government.
The secretary of state told the Hondurans that they should hold an election, and yes they did held an election, except that Mr. Zelaya was not on the ballot. This is indeed beautiful politics, so they fulfilled the mandate of election and therefore, can not reverse the will of the people.
Also, Blutarsky, you must inform yourself a bit better. This incident was the first test to an increasingly autonomous Latin America. Latin America has been pleading with the U.S. to allow them to fix their own problems and this was the first test. i believe that the Obama administration handle it very skillfully and it ended up looking better than everyone

else. The real losers here are, Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil, who with their geopolitical influence were not able to police themselves against this tragic history of the region. This goes to show that they are still not ready to become police of the region and in the future police themselves.
Our president looks both ignorant and childish in talking the way he is about the situation. His words clearly indicates that he was left out of the loop by Venezuela and Brazil and it also shows that our political arm has not yet reached beyond the borders of Haiti.
Mr. president, please do your homework and stop embarassing us in front of the international community.

If only democracy would have been respected in the first place to begin with then we wouldn't have to be seeing news like this. I guess that's what happens when somebody tries to raise the minimum wage in a poor country. 1992,2004 and now in 2009 way to go for Democracy and poverty enders. Now all Honduras needs is a bunch of NGOs and hey add it self to the list of failed state. Si no me crees preguntale a nuestro vecino de como sigue el cuento de la democracia y libertad. La mejor politica es no confiar en nadie en el continente americano o cualquier otro. Ya no se sabe quien es la victima o el ladron en este continente.

I wish Leonel would stay out of the affairs of Honduras ..it has the potential of causing problems for the DR which we do not need .I note that in some foreigh news services it has been suggested that there has been no formal invitation to either person but that Leonel is simply posturing . I hope that he does not offer Zelaya any form of refuge or asylum here.
Regardless of the rights or wrongs of the removal of Zelaya ,,what good will be done by giving him some title just for another 6 or 7 weeks . I would regard it as more beneficial to the people of Honduras to let some aid flow into their country ..By the way ,in the chaos the soccer team from Hondura has reached the World Cup in South Africa which is some achievement.

MEANWHILE.........back in the DR it's the same old SH--, day in day out. Suffering in Honduras....how about the daily suffering in the DR. Let the People of Honduras handle their own internal affairs with out outside help.
You are president of the DR not some foreign international diplomat.
I believe in these matters the DR must always maintain neutrality, why make a enemy to gain an new enemy ?
I could see it now Zelaya at home at LF's presidential palace in Santo Domingo at the DR people's expense.
IDEA ! why not send Zelaya to shack up with Hugo-a-go-go in CA CA, Venezuela we can then call it "beach blanket bingo" then with all that extra time remaining LF can spend that extra quality time in the DR doing what needs to be done.

I can also see Leonel offering this guy refuge in the DR just to appease Chauvez ..and I do not like the DR getting involved like this

Do you want to know the difference between a street prostitute and Lionel Fernandez?
The difference is that when you pay for the services of a prostitute you get to screw her as she will most likely make good on her promises.
On the other hand, when you pay for the services of a promise-a-lot politician like Lionel Fernandez...he just takes your money and screws you.

With all due respect to all of you, but please search a bit more and you will be able to come with the real politik that went on behind the scenes on this matter. Leonel will not bring Zelaya to the DR, since, the DR does not play a role in South American politics. guys, our only external political arena is Haiti, i though you would have known that by know.
I might be wasting my time in trying to bring light to the issue, since i saw how the negatives reviews hit my posting above, which BTW address the issue at hand and was not a bunch of blubber. This situation got out of hand when Lula and Chavez looked the U.S. side to solve the problem. the U.S. did its part in eliminating its aid to honduras, which is in the millions daily.
Yes, the poor are hurting and the champions of the poors in south america (Chavez and Lula) failed to restore order. Zelaya was taking advice from both leaders and now they found themselves wanted. Once again, this show that Latin America still need

Wilson's big stick policy. Their autonomies are in their infancy and i like what i see, but they need to cook a bit more for it to work properly.
I prime example of this is Bolivia and electing their locally/native leader with a resounding 63% and bi-passing the American educated candidates. These type of events a worth noting, since it show that people in Latin America are starting to recognize home grown talent and not only American made talent.

So now this meeting is off,or postponed as the diplomats may say . I hope it never takes place on Dominican soil and that Zelaya goes to Brazil and buys a hat shop on Copacaba Beach where he can happily fade away into normal existance.
