Santo Domingo.- The Government, with the help of international organisms, yesterday submitted another bill to amend Law 82-79 on the Sworn Financial Statement, which defines the penalties for corruption, 30 years after it was passed.
The piece was received in the Centro de los Heroes Courthouse by Senate Judicial Commission chairman Francisco Domínguez, who called the Law in effect since 1979 a swindle to the country, because it doesn’t help to prosecute official corruption.
The bill was presented by the Justice Ministry’s Anti-Corruption director Hotoniel Bonilla, who said that the assets of an ex official convicted of illicit enrichment will be seized and will become property of the State and those convicted will not be able to hold a public post from two to five years after.
Also present in the ceremony was World Bank representative Roby Senderowitsch, who hailed the bill’s effort to promote transparency. “The sworn statement is the first step toward governmental transparency, because where there’s no transparency there’s no good government.”

Only 30 Years Late .....................................................WE ARE DOOMED
More macho chest beating.... Do nothing mentality.
Dominicans do not have the balls to do anything about corruption. It is a way of life, they feel they are entitled to their corruption. Corruption is the ONLY things they are transparent about.
Dominicans wear corruption like a badge of honor.
In another 30 years, they'll pass another law.
They can amend the sworn statement bill as much as they want. The sad fact is that most officials do not submit one.
What's with this? How does this help the public in ANY way? Get a grip girls.
Once a scum bag always a scum bag. Let them cut sugar cane to make a living.
Yea, I think Bernie Madoff should have another chance of screwing 1000's of people of their life savings. He should die in jail. period.
30 years !
I would cringe to say something like that. That is a full generation. It is an outrageous embarrassment.
Do not talk about, do something.
Publish all the scum that have not revealed how they obtained their wealth, follow the money. It is easy. TODAY.
What irks me more than anything is that there seems to be honor amongst these thieves,......sort of like the mafia...they want honor and respect-the nerve!
This is a worthless piece of legislation-like everything else they do. Couldn't they borrow a page from USA? We have corruption here at plenty, but they all pay when caught and we just had recent example of it in Miguel Martinez- Dominican! Great justice.
