Damn it, this is not something you folks should be kidding about. I do not get you guys! Do you all even realize that an earthquake would mean for the entire island? Rest assure that, even the progression path DR has been on could be halted and jeopardized. And Haiti itself might end up deeper in the abyss of extreme abject poverty which in turns will caused greater social problems for DR because guess where the Haitians will head...? If you think DR (Dominicans) and Haiti (Haitians) are at odds now, try picturing or seeing the island after a major earthquake or natural disaster. You all need to chill on the ill rhetorical statements just a tad and think.

Can you picture a Santo Domingo with all its sky scrappers and high rises a tumbled ruins? The amount of innocent victims who would be displaced out of their homes and worse, will die if such a thing were to happen and it could be such a devastation the island and the people is not ready for. That is why although I like to marvel at the great development boom of DR, but it concerns me as well to want to know if proper emergency measures and structures are considered in the building developmental aspect of erecting those sky scrappers and is there the right insurance for them. One thing I know for certain, if we think we have seen the last of what corruption represents on the island, wait till such an event were to take place then we would really start pulling our hairs out enough to look like dying cancer patients on their w.orse chemotherapy days. Folks, let us not joke about something like that.

TanBellaMami,
Just to let you know I live in South California EARTHQUAKE COUNTRY.
I've seen the destruction of an earthquake first hand, my first jolt was the "1971" the Sylmar quake plus many many more that followed.

I THINK ALL THE TIME.

Your right I also wonder about the Island's construction / building codes, as many should.

Haiti deeper ? no way.....Haiti is so low.......only one way............UP !

Not to be funny, but.......The chaos you speak of, one would think the big one hit let's say 50 years ago.

Please take my advice STAY AWAY FROM THE METRO, concrete apartments, buildings and low lying coastal areas.

TAKE CARE.

There will be a hurricane to hit Santo Domingo and also earthquakes closer. If you don't think there is a risk there you are crazy.
