Puerto Plata.– Family and friends are scouring the Dominican Republic for a 46-year-old Canadian man who has been missing for more than a week.
D'Arcy Wright, from Hamilton, Ontario, moved to Sosua in October to take over a property management company.
One week ago, he left his office early, visited a friend, went to the beach and a bar, then vanished. The only sign of him since then has been two aborted calls from his
iPhone, but both calls were disconnected before they were answered.
Family members say there have been no ransom demands and no indication Wright was involved in drugs.
The family says it has enlisted the help of the RCMP, which is sending
an officer to the Dominican Republic to help in the search. The
Canadian Embassy in Santo Domingo and the Canadian Honorary Consulate
in Puerto Plata are also in contact with local authorities.

RCMP? Wait til he arrives and sees the P.O.S. LEO in the RD.....he'd be wise to go back and tell all Canadian tourists to take their money to CUBA, where it's safe.

Prayers and faith are what we need now for a positive outcome in the case, as too much time has passed since D'Arcy went missing. The US has FBI staff on Island and Col. Alejandro Dipre of the PN has worked closely on similar cases with the US Embassy in the past. Has the Canadian Embassy requested assistance from the US Embassy or Col. Dipre? Since there has been no mention of robbery (missing items/money) or ransom in public statements, this case appears to me, like a settling of personal differences (jealous gf/bf or business partner). My thoughts only.... I still am praying for a miracle.

Once and for all now Canadians need to see the how dangerous this country can be for a foreign investor. This man was not very smart or went on vacation with a nice lady friend. RCMP will have their hands full dealing with the PN. I would love to read the RCMP reports of how the PN conduct the investigation and how helpful they are.

Unfortunately disappearences of foreigners for various reasons do occur..
In a climate of economic decline and uncertainty throughout the world, the last thing a developing country need; is for foreign investors to feel unwelcomed or threaten.
I hope this investigation is resolved successfully and DR doesn't become another Mexico or Columbia where kidnappers are rampant.

Sosua, actually all of POP is a big dump. You can't expect anything good to come out of that place. The people are corrupt, but the local authorities are worse. The beach itself is very beautiful, but the rest can go to hell in a handbasket. Good luck to his family. Lets hope he just eloped.

You took the words right out of my mouth........I call it "Tourist over-kill", the lure of possible tourist big bucks brings the worst out and still it draws it's percentage of the tourist visit to the Island. I am still planning a trip to POP next year, as always I'll just use common sense [spider senses] while there.

Please stop all the stupid remarks, this is very serious. D'arcy is a good kind gentle man and does not get involved with "the other side". Thanks for bringing us all back to Earth-reality. I don't know all the facts in this case but a businessman, it sounds like foul play to me. A possible kidnap/robbery ? GOD I hope I'm wrong.
Men don't just disappear.
What's needed is more media coverage, I hope they put up a reward for information, somebody out there knows something.
Let's all hope and pray for the best, let us not forget the Family.

We know that this has gone all the way up to the Presidents Office..... Those who wish to post messages of support may go to DR!,com and join in our search. This is indeed an extremely rare and very mysterious event in the DR. Darcy was well known and well respected in Sosua. We are all very concerned. Please join us in prayers for the safe return of our missing friend.

We all are hoping for a positive outcome. Why has the Dominican press been so quiet on this case? Are they (Press) trying not to cast any negative news on the upcoming tourist high season? We are almost two complete weeks since D'Arcy went missing, with few leads as to what happened. riosm asks some excellent questions above and Tommy brings up a new gf. Certainly the investigators are looking at these angles. We, the public, have far too little info to provide any meaningful insight into this case. All we can provide, are our best wishes and prayers for his safe return home. We continue to do that. May all our prayers be answered.

His sister, Trish Suzuki, said she is satisfied local police have made the search a top priority.
"There has been a lot of speculation," she said. "Some people have asked, 'Could this be a kidnapping? Could he have stumbled across something that he shouldn't have and as a result is he being held captive? Or has someone caused harm to him or has someone murdered him?'

Yes Blu, it is all far too silent. It gives me an uneasy feeling. Did D'Arcy leave any unfinished business in Canada? Have the investigators contacted all the girls he has had contact with in the past year? Have they talked to these girl's chulos? No info is forthcoming on this case, leaving people to wonder what is happening? Are other extranjeros in the area safe ? A close friend of D'Arcy feels this may be a "robbery that went bad". Why? Were there things missing? Prayers are all, most of us can offer, and so far, they have not been answered.

HE HAS BEEN FOUND, ALIVE AND WELL!!!!!
Missing expat D'Arcy Wright was found alive yesterday, Sunday December 27th.
Though still dazed and disoriented Darcy Wright was located near Boca Chica having been missing for 18 days.
The way he describes his ordeal it appears that he was kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity. Two men came to the house where he was staying and kidnapped him at gunpoint. Neither he nor the house were robbed. He was held for an unspecified period of time, drugged and eventually released about 4 days ago in the campo. Neither of his kidnappers used his name but they did call him by a name which was not his.

Once released and in a drugged state he eventually made his way to the south of the island. In fear of his life he hid out in a hotel where he tried to recall events. His recall is still limited but yesterday he made his way to an Internet cafe and managed to remember his log-in details and called his friend Marc Beland in Sosua on Skype. Marc thought it was a prankster so got D'Arcy's brother Todd to ask a question about their childhood, to which only D'Arcy would have known the answer.
