Santo Domingo. - Diarrhea, backaches and a vertebra hernia are just some of the ailments which according to the medical certificate, the former banker Manuel Arturo Pellerano complains of in the last few months and which have delayed the start of the trial for alleged fraud of around RD$22 billion (US$600 million).

Pellerano, who was president of the failed bank Bancredito, is in in Najayo prison (south) since November last year, serving an eight year sentence for another case of fraud against that bank’s depositors.

The new trial was slated to begin on March 11 but 10 hearings have passed so far in which the ex banker has sent six medical certificates for different physical ailments which his doctors say prevent his presence.

For the Banks Superintendence and the Central Bank Pellerano’s tactic seeks to delay the start of the process. He entered to the Hospiten private health center diagnosed “with chronic CEAP IV venous insufficiency,” states the medial certificate.

Meanwhile National District Appellate Court judges Sarah Veras, Daira Medina and Ingrid Fernandez scheduled the next hearing for January 22.

When my wife doesn't feel like going to work she pays a doctor $600RD for a licencia, which and of itself is an incredible commentary on the ethics and morals of the doctor. A DOCTOR IS TAKING 600 PESOS TO LIE. I wonder how much Pellerano's doctors are charging him?

Why should things change? LF should pardon him, as he did Vivian Lubrano. I am certain Manuel Arturo Pellerano is very ill and will die, if not released and allowed complete bed rest at his Casa de Campo Villa.

OK, He doen't feel well. Just bring the court to him. As a matter of fact DR must not entertain a thought of his fisical health. When he stole the depositors monies there wasn't any moral remorse. Treat this slimeball the same way. Hey, the justice system should apoint thier own doctors, screw this guy he has no say in anything, he is property of the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC now.

Give this guy a break, poor bastard, he stole and got caught. In this country, the real crime is the act of getting caught. Don't we tolerate everything else? If we didn't would it be possible for our leaders to live well beyond the means that their "official" salaries would permit? Pellerano is just doing what his privileged class is doing this very minute. Stealing. They steal and we accept it because collectively we seem to believe that some day we too could steal as they do and get away with it. He and they have a parasitical relationship with the rest of us. Don't you just love it?
