Santo Domingo.- A National District Instruction Court judge after midnight Saturday set bail for a lieutenant colonel and ruled to incarcerate a lawyer and four Supreme Court (SCJ) employees who allegedly forged titles of property.

Judge Keila Perez set bail at one million pesos for lieutenant colonel Luis Emilio Gutiérrez and RD$50,000 for Edwin Sanchez, and sent the lawyer Carlos Vásquez Henry Melenciano, Oliver Fiallo, Walter Lendor and Jovanny Santana to San Cristóbal’s Najayo prison for three months.

The court will arraign Edwin Baquero, now in the Abreu clinic with "stomach ailments," in an unspecified date.

The group is accused of forging deeds of property within the SCJ’s Real Estate Jurisdiction to swindle several people out of millions of pesos, among them Major League Baseball player Julio Lugo.

Police chief Rafael Guzmán announced that he’ll recommend the discharge of Gutierrez, who denied the charges.

I think if the MLB player was not scammed they would still be getting away with this... Julio Lugo brought much more media attention onto this scam

Three months in Najayo!!!!! Are they trhowing in flat screen TV's and choice of prostitutes as well?

What an outrage!!!!!

People really need to start getting totally pissed off and take their country back. Those in power think we are stupid and docile and I believe we are, too.

Many hard-working individuals worked two and three jobs and countless hours to earn money to acquire properties in question, only to be swindled by this swine, with their judicial and government accomplices.

DR's justice system is not only an outrage but an absolute embarrassment. I just can't believe that foreigners continue to pour in their investments. Oh, I forgot, they are just laundering, so there aren't many other corrupt places for them to to take their ill-gotten riches to.

Perhaps there will be an earthly day of reckoning preceding the bibilical one-I truly hope so. Some of this swine would make great lamp post ornaments.

I personally know some one that committed murder in SDQ and is currently doing time. From what i here he has it better inside the joint than being outside. This guy has officers bringing him girls, brugal, cigars, a double cell with A/C. Also he has a few guys doing time making him hats and giving them to the officers and getting them drunk and playing dominos in his cell, like a king. All this for a day on his Wealthy families land ridding horses with the girlfriends.......................NOW THATS CORRUPTION AT ITS FINEST

I assume this story means that the case will be held at least 3 months in the future and that the lawyers are being locked up in the meantime and the two others were given bail...I wonder what were the reasons for the different decisions .
I also wonder how the swindle worked ,but assume the land offered for sale already had a genuine owner or that the land did not have any genuine title ..Is there any evidence that the conditions in Najayo are as pleasant as stated by glomarexporer or is it as horrid as most latin prisons ..I cannot see where the Justice system as failed here !!

Ricardo,

Do you recall the case of that infamous inmate from the west who recently got killed at Najayo after having sex with two women one after the other? He had cell phones [that's how he called his wife to come get his body as he sat moribund on a sofa]; he had a flat screen TV; he had a full working kitchen; etc; etc. Those are pretty nice privileges for an inmate by any standards-don't you agree?

Najayo is an absolute joke, and a clear reminder of the duality of the Dominican justice system: a set of penalties and prisons for the have-nots and a separate and more luxurious one for the haves. Doesn't seem fair or equitable to me. Are the poor somehow children of lesser God? Are they somehow less Dominican than the rich? I think not.

Let's resolve to get rid of Najayo prison altogether and have just one prison system for all. Remember: "don't do the crime unless you can do the time."

That's not true Glomar. I was swindled in Dominican Republic and I wasn't laundering anything! I'm in charge of my aunt's estate down there and I invested over 100 grand in an apartment that has turned out to be a piece of shit. My ex boyfriend's family took me to these crooks who turned out to be liars, thieves, swindlers. To this day I have no title, no apartment, no nothing. There are several liens on the apartment. The only people who get attention in Dominican Republic are baseball players. I think Leonel jerks off to them when he watches baseball games. He treats them like royalty. I have been fighting this situation for almost three years and I'm so tired. A whole group of people swindled me including an ADA, 2 lawyers, my ex's parents, my ex, the contractors. I'm a US Citizen by birth and I went to the Embassy to complain. They basically told me to go home because they felt that my life could possibly be in danger. I will die before I let these scumbags keep my money but in the

GG,

I feel your pain and hope you will prevail in the end, much to the detriment of all those swindlers.

Please persevere and best of luck.

Lol! In my message, it seems like I got shot before I could finish. So, as I was saying, I'm going to keep fighting until I get somewhere. That's the type of person I am and I give up I'll feel worse. Gosh, I wonder what would happen if I blow up the building. Probaby nothing. Hey, that's DR!
