The image of Haiti's woes.
Santo Domingo. - The Armed Forces Ministry will stage farewell for the 600 junior officers who will be sent together with their families to the Dominican-Haitian border to reinforce the vigilance in that zone.
The sendoff for the graduates of the military academies will be carried out in front of the Armed Forces Ministry at 10 a. m. tomorrow Tuesday, in compliance with president Leonel Fernandez Decree, ordering their deployment along the border.
The military will be sent together with their relatives to live in some communities that have been abandoned by Dominicans, and which Haitian immigrants now populate.
Decree 581-09, issued in September, orders all recently graduated officers to serve in patrols and vigilance along the border, but also to teach and repair the homes of poor families in the area’s towns.

good move
but it will be better if instead of 600 they send 6000 well paid and well arm with a license to kill any tree cutters and charcoal smuggling MOFU they come across, dominican or haitian.

This is a brilliant idea, which I support fully because it's the beginning to a better coexistence. I believe the young blood will foster new life and hope for this island we share. However, this is not the complete solution. We all agree that immigration needs to deport all illegals who don't have a working visa. If you want Haitians to be gone for good and put Dominicans to work, you must demand higher wages.
It's the government's job to stand up for the people and make it law. The government and lawmakers hold the VITO power to force corporations to pay their fair share. It's a shame the wealth of this country is not equally distributed. Making the rich, richer and the poor, poorer...
Good luck to the families that move to the borders...

Without question, one of the saddest pictures I've ever seen. What a sharp contrast between environmental responsibility! Was situation precipitated by ignorance, greed or both? Our Haitian neighbors have obviously raped and devastated their land, a clear gift from God. Was it ignorance, greed or both? Can it be reversed? Also, how do we properly safeguard our portion of the island from similar fate?
All things considered, perhaps this is a good and responsible move on LF's part, although I can't bring myself up to admit it.
I truly wish this initiative great success, for I don't wish for Dr to experience similar ecological fate to that of our neighbors......we must do everything possible to prevent it! This initiative could be a game-changer for LF and, if he were to prove successful, we'll all have to give him credit.

Well, now we are talking very clear.
Sending a strong message and taking step into the right direction
so we are in a better shape to fix this problematic.
Let us go step by step with a firm commitment.
But as a response: There will be many voices raising up and asking for "Open Border" Police.
