Santo Domingo.– Presient Leonel Fernandez and the Executive Branch pardoned Deidania Gonzalez Jimenez, who had been sentenced to a 30 year jail term for the murder of merchant Jose Castro in November 2003.

According to the Presidency website, Fabio Ruiz Rosado was also favored with a pardon. He was the former president of the Plan for Vehicular Renewal (Renove). Also pardoned, by means of Decree 908-09, were the French citizens Celine Maryline Faye Gaelle and Zarah Zaknoun, who were in jail for drug trafficking.

The last person pardoned was American Cherish Royanne Dale, who was on parole since 21 March 2009.

I wish I knew the lawyer that handles those cases and has that connection.

You know the right people, pay the right money and be all you can be!

001: licence to traffic in illicit substances
002: licence to screw the State
003: licence to screw ordinary citizens
007: licence to kill

I leave the rest of the 00´s to reader's imagination.

This pardon is an example as why criminal activity is so rampant in the country. There is no will on the part of the government to apprehend, convict, and punish the criminal element. The country is a Disneyland for law violators.

if my memory serves me right, Plan Renove was the scam wherein a bunch of drones ripped of gazillion of dollars of taxpayer money. one of the masterminds, the gringo gangster Shlomo Ben Tov, alias Sam Goodson, simply walked out of court on the day of his hearing, and bolted to parts unknown. proves that in the DR, there is one political party ,broken into squads. the strategy is to take turns at the trough. so, although the renove guys were hippo boys, they get a slide from Leo. at least, there is honor among thieves.

Deidania Gonzalez Jimenez

We should know the facts, I know this case in particular.

When DV perpetrators abuse victims such to the point of forcing the victim at gun point to get his way. If the victim reacts and kill the perpetrator is called self defense.

The only reason the Deidania was sentenced was because the dead person who was feard by everyone in his neighborhood belong to the ruling party and had lots of influence in the court system. Ask the people in San Cristobal, you know the word of mouth, same way that Winston gets his information. They'll tell you who he was, and how he used to do horrible acts of crimes against her and even when she went to the police multiple times, they did nothing to stopped him.

This is one of the greatest pardon he has ever given!!

ASK the people in SC, they know.

Don't be prompt to coment without all the facts,

I am actually happy fr the lady that has many children with the the killed person (ex-abuser), and can finally go to bed knowing he won't show up to hit her with correa de cuero in front of everyone, and threaten and dragg her brothers out of her brother residence to demand he where abouts when she hid from him, trying to scape the abuse.

Know the facts, before commenting

dondankar,

If Ms. Deidania Gonzalez Jimenez, is truly an innocent victim of abuse and killed in self defense (and I have no reason to doubt your representation of her) and it was a kangaroo court that convicted her, I presume during a previous non- PLD administration, why did LIE-onel let her languish in prison for approximately 5 to 6 years?

Why didn’t he pardon her immediately after August of 2004 or certainly before the Vivian Lubrano Castillo, the tried and convicted beyond doubt of multi-billon dollar bank embezzler?

Is it guilt or the HEAT he got from the outrageous pardon of the non-armed bank robber?

I tend to think it’s the later, but if we followed Rick’s blind allegiance to this corrupt bum and not make his life miserable every second of every day as he does for the Dominican masses including Christmas, he might not have pardoned her!

Josean, I respect your comments about the the President; However, it was during Leonel Fernandez's second term that she was convicted. and the Abuser now dead was from PLD then rulling party. Her sentence was actualy less than the 30 years, but a revision done when Leonel Fernandez assumed power one more time sentenced her to serve 30 years.

I personally don't know and could not attest of Leonel's state of mind to give this pardon to her against the will of many of the PLD people in San Cristobal.

This I know:

When he was killed no one cried and people were actually happy he was dead.

Again, Word of the street, I personally know this case.

for anyone that reads Spanish, here are some facts

Gonzales was concubine and domestic labore of the dead

The actual ex-abuser wife was already pardon in 2007 by Leonel Fernandez
Written by: dondankar, 24 Dec 2009 7:14 PM

There is not question this murder was planned and executed by the wife and the Domestic laborer, and even when the murder was in 2003, it was not until 2006 when the two were sentenced. Wife was pardon one year after in 2007, but the domestic laborer was still serving a sentence.

I inquired this facts to word of the street in the neighborhood so that I could give realistic information.

About the dead and all Burocrats

I don't like Burocracy and its terms of use by the Burocrats HIHG CLASS dominican that believe they could do anything they want, but I believe in the humbleness and simplicity of people with good hearts who are fighting to achieve a better tomorrow

The list of pardons is made not by the president but by a select committee ,,the President made an horrible error last year by not following the advice from the committee but there is no evidence that this year he departed from advice given to him ,, as I do not know the details of the case I would think it improper to judge .

Ricardolito, i am mystified by your last posting. you assert that the president does not choose the candidates for pardons, but responds to a selection committee. why they would suggest someone, then advise the pres not to pardon them , baffles me. by your information, it was not he that chose Vivian Lubrano, but the committee. please elucidate.

This woman who received a presidential pardon last year was, so it was reported ,not on the list given to the President and some if not all of the Committee was so outraged that they resigned ..I also regarded it as a very bad thing and have written so ,,my point is that to the best of our knowledge this year he followed the recommendations given to him...You may recall that last year he also pardoned the officials who on sold some of the buses given by ,I think ,Brazil..I also regarded this as a disgrace.

I try to comment on issues in isolation from others rather than condemn the President for everything ..and in his pardons of last year I regard his conduct as digraceful. That does not mean that all his actions can be regarded in the same way and if you consider that he is the architect of all evil in the country and has done no good at all ,then I do not agree. In the last three or four years I have seen this country change for the better but I am sorry, just as the world bank is ,that the growth has nor been better spread across all levels of society . In that regard, this country is like many latin and developing countries where the divisions between the haves and have nots is still too great. I give the President credit for much of the growth and also the blame for some of the continued social injustices.
I am sorry if my approach is not capable of being understood by you. I hope you have a happy christmas ,you dear old misery pot

All other concerns aside, I find simply unacceptable a President has more powers than a Court of Appeals, and can singlehandedly revoke a verdict and a sentence rendered by the constitutionally correct jurisdiction.

What is the use of Courts of justice if the chief of the executive can at will overturn their decisions and bypass the due process of law?

There is no rule of law in this country.

Wao, a president has to act as a judge because the judicial system is incapable of performing its duties!?

This was a good pardon.

From my point of view (I'm not affiliated with any party), with all his faults, Leonel Fernandez has been a great economical facilitator for our nation economy. Every trip he makes brings a businesses deal boosting our economy. Isn't what a poor country like ours needs?

So far in my record Leonel is the ONLY PRESIDENT (together with Balaguer) that have tried to bring our economy to prosperity. So far his mot unforgivable fault is his lack of attention to the porous border and the out of control Haitian immigration issues which will tarnish all the work he has done so far.

In response to the various remarks ..I am not a member or supporter of any party and I regard both of the major parties as fairly ordinary and as I am a resident and not a citizen,I have no vote nor do I try to influence any one how to vote.
The President makes many decisions every day and receives advice before hand ..I believe that he is doing a good job in many areas but not all areas.
The Presidential pardon system is something I never grew up with but I know it is used in many countries but I do not know why ...I can see it may be a good idea when people are convicted on political grounds and need a pardon or when international considerations need to be made but otherwise I am not a fan of the pardons.
