Santo Domingo.– Twenty-six people were killed during the first few days of the Christmas break, while 241 have been injured so far due to 114 traffic accidents, said Emergency Operations Center (COE) director Juan Manuel Mendez Garcia.

According to the report, the largest number of deaths, 23, occurred in road accidents. Of the 55 persons affected for alcohol overdose, three died. Seven were treated for food poisoning.

Of the traffic accidents reported so far, 88 motorcycles and 43 other vehicles were involved.

that shame it should have the same law like usa if you drink & drive get lock up, if dominican cop was there it wouldn't have accidents in first place to check people if they are drunk while driveing

Hard to drive when your head's tilted back takin a swig of Brugal....survivors of victims of drunk driving should sue the distillers if empty bottles are found in the vehicles of drunk drivers

They should had holidays check points with cops out, None of this wouldn't happen or even the toll of death in this accident wouldn't occur. I think it's sad now because now their family is gonna suffer for the new year because their loved one had pass away this old year. Drinking and Driving is not a funny thing. They can prevent it from happening ...it's ashame.

I wonder of the death tally so far how many were Alcohol related ? or just stupid chance taking driving like making the laws / rules as one drives along ?

What is a bit hard to understand...is "Of the 55 persons affected for alcohol overdose, three died. Seven were treated for food poisoning. Are these people who were driving or simply overindulging at home???

Now...since when does 88 and 43 add up to 114???

When ever I drive in the DR I drive with all eyes OPEN, and leave nothing to chance.
