2009 has been very hard for many people around the world ..and from little fault of their own ..so I hope the next year is kinder for everyone ..Here in the DR it seems that the east and the capital has not been effected as badly as in the north so I hope that things equal out a bit .
I hope also that more people share in the economic recovery here and overseas and I pray for all people living in my adopted country including those who have contrary views than I do .

Hope that the Dominicans and the Haitians who have enough sense(and they are the majority) will keep encouraging the efforts being made on both sides and will keep convincing the eternal pessimists that regardless of the problems both countries and their people are bound to live together. That's my sincere wish for this year.Laverite.

You want to devastate, Washington Heights economy!
Written by: dagtan, 1 Jan 2010 4:16 PM

Thank you Josean, sometimes some of these people here sound very idiotic indeed.

Vast vibrant Dominican communities here in the U.S. will be devastated if and when a mass deportation policy is mandated in the country.

Remember, our illegals provide higher dollar per dollar injection to the DR's liquidity than those who are legal and more than those who are citizens. the reason for this is that illegals know that they will one day return, but want a house and some money to survive, while residents might one a house and U.S. citizens often settle here and the house here.

I know we all want the haitians out, but please do not throw out these blanket statements, since the DR will actually suffer harsher economics consequences if the lifeline provided by those mini economies functioning on the shoulders of illegal dominican workers in the U.S. was to be cut off.

when did i said " all of them" , you seem not to be proud of country, you shouldn't even be called Dominican, and anyone who re fusses to protect the nation!. The D.R will not suffer any frekign economic problems, instead we will get rid of all those poor immigrants who come and make our country more poor then it is.

well my point is happy new year, this is the decade of revolution!. I'm willing to fight for my country until i die.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL.

The future will get better with a positive attitude. The DR will get better with the peoples help. My 2nd home is the DR and I have seen many improvements over the years.

A positive attitude?

1. Can't buy your kids milk,
2. Can't get you decent health care,
3. Can't get you a decent education for your kids,
4. Can't get you a government with out corrupt bandits running it;

If it were just a matter of attitude all of our problems would have been solved or at least significantly ameliorated a long time ago!

I think it will take more than just “a positive attitude” my friend, a lot more I am sorry to say!

This is a gem to be read by all those who are serious about the future of our extremely troubled republic and its embryonic democracy:

Triunfó el caudillismo

El fundamento de la política económica es el clientelismo, sea de forma abierta o encubierta, corrupta o con ribetes de beneficencia

Señor Presidente, ya que ha declarado al 2010 como "Año de la Reactivación Económica Nacional", no nos queda más que pedirle que vaya preparando el terrero para declarar el próximo decenio (2011-2020) "Decenio de Quisqueya", para que tengamos una verdadera identidad nacional. Los pasos que sugerimos son los siguientes:
1) Anunciar un plebiscito para incluir a Quisqueya como el nombre oficial de la Patria y la Nación;

New year was wonderful in the capital with concerts along the Malecon on the corner of Gomez and there were thousands of people there enjoying themselves and in every street in Zona Colnial,Ciudad Nueva and Gazcue there seemed to be parties for everyone in the neighbourhood on the street .I did not see any fights but a lot of people very refreshed and having a wonderful time .
On the Friday night ,enero 1 ,there was a concert in Plaz españa and at the restaurants overlooking the plaza ,nearly every table was full..Plaza España looked great with a huge christmas tree covered in lights and very little rubbish . A great way to start the new year !!!

So there you have it folks Martha Stewart’s report of 1% of 1% of the activities of the Dominican people.

“A Real sampling” of the way the “majority” must have spent their New Years Eve in DR.

And she didn't even reoprt on the parties a the METRO stations!

All the hotels in Bayahibe are full and it is difficult to find many rooms in the Bavaro Punta Cana area as many tourists for the christmas and new year period ..the new Coral Highway has had much work completed on it and should be ready for the next christmas rush ....unfortunately I could not be everywhere but it is great to see everyone having a happy time in this wonderful country where the climate is warm now but not too hot happy new year ..Next big national party is on the 27 February ..
