Santo Domingo. - Two Super Tucano attack planes, the first of eight, left Brazil yesterday toward San Isidro Airbase, where they are expected arrive in the next 48 hours, to a ceremony headed by president Leonel Fernandez.

It’s the third time the country obtains attack craft, the first being the Mustang P-51s and then the A-37 Dragonfly jets, one of which shot down a plane carrying drugs near the border with Haiti in the late 1980s.

Their arrival places Dominican Republic in the group of Latin America nations which have bought the craft from company Embraer, in Sao Jose Dos Campos, to fight drug trafficking, contraband and illegal immigration.

Dominican Air Force (FAD) officers pilot the two planes, accompanied by two Brazilian technicians, who took off at 1:30 p.m. yesterday near the city Sao Paulo, but for security reasons neither their route nor identities has been revealed.

In a ceremony held Friday in Embraer’s hangars its executives Dominican Armed Forces minister Pedro Rafael Peña signed the documents transferring the Super Tucanos to Dominican property.

U.S. high tech

The United States Government’s authorization was need prior to the planes’ flight, since they own the highly reserved technology, forbidden to countries which it considers dangerous.

“Definitely, the airplanes already took off and are in flight towards the country and we expect them in San Isidro in less than 48 hours,” said a military said source to newspaper Listin.

We're just days away from the first one plummeting into the sea....

Set up: a suspect low n slow aircraft inbound from the south headed towards La Romana.....Super T is dispatched and idents suspect from a higher altitude.

Without any radio contact with the suspect aircraft, the Super T banks right attempting a stern intercept....and it's inertia takes it through the suspect A/C's altitude and into the Caribbean, pancaked.

The DR builds tug and patrol boats that are sold in countries like Australia.

48 hours from Brazil to the DR?
Are they on a sightseeing tour also?
Anything that will help stem the flow of cocaine into the DR will be an assist at this time.
Now we need to polygraph all military and customs personnel to prevent the most common entry point into the country, corrupted officials.

Will these armed planes be allowed to shoot down drug carrying planes?

Fortunately our general's have saved some of the drugs confiscated recently. That way, when some innocent family is shot down while on vacation, they will have drugs to plant in the wreckage. Our police this year have killed almost 300 people in "exchange of gunfire". We have 10-12 million people (depends on the real number of Haitians) living here. The US has 250 million people. Thus far this year about 400 people have been killed in "exchange of gunfire". Why would anyone think that our Air Force pilots will be any less trigger happy?

Your ignorance knows no bounds.

So the DR is suppose to copy the plane and start production?
Ok..Lets play
Forget about the total lack of technological capability of the country.
So the DR is going to brush aside copyright and patent laws? You don't think Brazil would have a problem with it?
What about Pratt&Whitney of Canada? What about all of the other vendors who supply parts and avionics?

But lets say in your land of Unicorns and Rainbows you can get away with that.

Who is going to buy it? It is not like Brazil is selling 100's of Super Tucanos. Actually they have sold barely over 100. And it is a crowded market.

But i am sure with you expertise in military sales you will explain to all of us how the DR could do it.

aC - you are a defeatist. Swedn is a small country but builds fighter aircraft. China build fighter aircraft.
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2007-01/06/content_776078.htm
Maybe large drones and small rockets first.
A few half scale models in the sky would sure confuse an attack force. They have an endurance of up to 1 hour so can be constanly on patrol. Imagine sending a 50 million dollar fighter plane to shoot one of these down.
http://www.falcon-aviation.com/
I did my structures course labs and we did some tests on HS125 airframes. Sees to me the DR government wouid be better buying some machine tools and hiring some russian experts.than importing from Brazil. Might be a nice little earner....
Rockets also are easy to build controlling the burn rate and maintaining stability / direction are the difficult parts.
I guess a drug runner in a beech craft might wonder what was chasing him.
A few helicopters could be built for patrol at sea and borders.

It is amazing how more ridiculous ABC posts get.

He actually believes that a US airforce Fighter would confuse a model airplane with an actual combat plane!!!

He actually believes that China's aviation industry was totally home created.

He believes 1 hour of endurance is a lot.

He actually believes that by using Google he can become an Arms expert.

All he does is prove how much of a twit a person can be.

Radar operators have confused almost everything for a plane. Turbines blades in wind farms have been mistaken for a plane. Clutter is common. . Nothing is totally home created. US planemakers use European instrumentation, UK engines etc.
Soon of course catching and shooting down drones will be a major business for the World's armed forces.
An MQ -1 goes at about 100 miles an hour and is only about 20 feet long. Perhaps a range of 400 miles. A ww2 doodebug had a range of 150 miles and 17 foot in span. Model planes can fly faster than many Cessnas . aC likes Flugblattgeschoose except he uses DT.

AnthonyC,

I fully concur with your comments above.

Subject lives in delusional state in parallel world. I see no end to his warped views on everything and his apparent dislike for everything American [US].

I couldn't fathom a rational human being, purported to be highly educated, contributing such gibberish. I certainly would not want to drive over any bridge for which he was the engineer, as there would certainly exist some inherent incorrect calculation or omission.

I suppose this individual seems so far off at times, that he simply cannot be serious and must be pulling our leg. I see no other plausible explanation for his strange comments, behavior.

Gloamar,

ABC is the Queen of Googleing ridiculous webistes.

he actually believes the knows more about air-defense technology than the Russians or Chinese.

In his kingdom of Unicorn-Rainbow land US radar cannot differentiate between military aircraft and a model airplane doing 100 mph.

I for one do not believe he has an engineering degree. Perhaps he is a Sanitation engineer?

In a country that can not produce enough electricity, it can manufacture aircraft?
In a country that takes five years to build a bridge over a river, it can manufacture aircraft?

I agree with all of those here that find it absurd that such production projects as attack aircraft could be manufactured here.

Maybe send a letter to Santa Claus asking for this ability- that is more likely to come true.

Remember the Jackson Five song..."A, B, C simple as 1, 2, 3"?

There' something moving on the radar screen - could be a plane, could be a wind turbine. Its not as exact as you think. It does not have to be a military aircaft to be damaging. If the US is/was so great how was it that 9/11 attack planes had such a high success rate?
Recently of course an airliner overshot its destinaton airport by a 100 miles or more and just an alert issued after loosing radio contact for over an hour.
http://snafu-ed.blogspot.com/2009....shoot-destination-airport-by.html
Actually the law is in the US that you can only fly high performance model planes in special airspaces - some attached to military bases. If they are so sure they can know whats up there why the regulation.
One of my jobs involved analysis of transmission of infra red beams through jet plumes as part of a vulnerability study group.

red detection systems or x band radars - probably never even seen an advanced holgraphic HUD.
I'm sure the country could start with 1/2 scale model planes as drones then start building the real thing. Perhaps also a simple helicopter to look after the borders. Apparently a helicopter builder was shut down in the DR recently.

Modern systems ( inclding F22 ) work through sensor fusion at high range and can be confused.

However the philosophy is to shoot first if in doubt and ask questions later such is the vulnrability of a modern jet fighter and host aircraft carrier.

What could we say about this guy? He could go from neo-eloquent to a total idiot in same sentence.

He sort of reminds me of custodians and janitors wandering halls of good colleges and occasionally listening to some classes, then proceeding to found philosophies and broadcasting them. I suppose he's been around engineers; however, he himself is not one-I don't suppose so. If he is, then he's fallen prey to stress and has lost all connection to logical rationality.

Perhaps he has experienced severe head trauma and lost all ability to reason, communicate.

He is either an unrecognized genius or a total idiot. I lean towards latter. He makes no sense and cannot stay focused. He must be insane; I see no other plausible explanation for his strange behavior.

It's a shame really. Yes, I have international awards for engineering but I don't boast about it. Its good to see a product where you have led the design team flowing down the production line. Also published papers are good. Blut - carry on fixing your broken down TV's. Probably beyond you anyway. Any model plane you control would surely crash while mine soar magnificently.
Glo - carry on with those patents -only 0.1 % or less are useful - the rest just hinder the progress of mankind. Glos gyroscope is showing large errors having gone a long distance........ it's the cube of the distance you know.......... Blut is off to collect his caviar.....
