Santo Domingo.– Dominican authorities have arrested 26 police officers and their commander for
alleged ties to drug trafficking.
Police Chief Rafael Guzman
Fermin says they are in part accused of taking money to let drug
traffickers operate in Puerto Plata. Guzman on Saturday called the
arrests "unprecedented."

A good but small step in long, long journey. I would like to see all evidence burned publicly with confirmation from DEA, then we could start applauding.
Similar case to the one in Bonao [or was it Moca?] a couple of weeks ago, where local police department was dismissed. Perhaps corruption has permeated the entire protective fabric and trust is no longer viable.

I thinks these are the guppies, and mollies of (sweet water) the schools of fish that have an insatiable appetite for cash money. You can call them bait, or even small fry.

Big steps are always preceeded by small ones. Hope authorities keep it going on the right direction and continue fulfilling their duty as they are expected to.

Forgive me for remaining skeptical on this action, but real money is in higher value drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Considering chain paid off to have successful operation, one would suspect there was little left for the 26 or so individuals, given relatively small size and value of catch.
Could this be a feeble and thinly veiled attempt at placating increasingly outraged public? Unless haul was homegrown, its worth seems insufficient to justify risk and cost to fly it in from Colombia.

BTW, guns are nice-particularly two composite ones on left: HK-40? & Glock 23?. Hope they will auction them off and generate some revenue....should bring in >$1k. Don't care much for gun on right, which appears to be a Beretta; would throw it in for free with other two as lot. Further revenue potential in requisite licenses. Win/Win, as I see it.

Whats a good start, the police force needs to get the confidence of the population. Please publish the name in front page of every newspaper in the nation of the criminals so that families and friends could see their face.

Try and put that slogan under a white sand beach scene with Royal Palms and Coconut Trees right up to the surf.
It would be like another "Miami Vice" episode.
