Santo Domingo.– A small earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale has struck near the Mona Passage off the Dominican Republic, but with no reported injuries or damages.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter was located about 69 miles (110 kilometers) east of Santo Domingo. The earthquake also was felt in Puerto Rico before dawn on Saturday.

The Dominican Civil Defense Department says no one was injured and that damages have not been reported.

Hmmm....great reporting. The USGC reported the epicentre as being near El Siebo....I did notice alot of peoplle last week crossing the bridge on the river, but had no idea that that river was now known as the Mona Passage.

Let's hope the Dominican Republic hops on board with the current research being done by QuakeFinder. Its hope is to discover a recognizable and measureable precursor to earthquakes using electromagnetic ground sensors. The data from the Alum Rock, CA 10/2007 quake is remarkable and amazing! They truly need to be taken seriously so we can have an early earthquake warning system one day!

Well, the METRO is still okay for now. But when are bigger & more direct one hits... you know what happens when the tunnels are compromised!

To incur the added expense to build underground in an earthquake prone area makes no sense!

Santiago de Los Caballeros is.
