Santo Domingo.- Dominican-born community activist and politician Haile Rivera Thursday announced that he’ll drop his bid for a seat in New York’s 14th City Council District, Bronx County.
"After serious consideration, I have decided to terminate my 2009 City Council candidacy for the 14th Councilmanic District, I must thank everyone who supported my candidacy early on. I would also like to thank those in the media who covered my candidacy,” he said in an emailed statement.
However Rivera adds that he’ll continue to be active in his community, “while at the same time pursue other exciting opportunities."

1. health
2. Skeletons in the past about to be revealed
3. Polls have u so far behind it is embarassing
and the biggest reason.......
No Money. The contributions aren't coming in.
From: Dominican Republic
He probably felt that the position would interfere with his Dental practice in Nagua.
Very GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JB!
- Haile does not have no "Dental practice in Nagua": he's from San Jose de Ocoa and has never visited Nagua
- "Skeletons in the closet": Haile's life has been an open book--from start to finish. Those of us who know him personally can speak to that. Those who don't know him or have never met him, have no base to speak on this.
- lack of contributions: Haile has access to a very large list of donors who supported President Barack Obama very early on and the response received from those donors was overwhelmingly supportive of Haile's candidacy.
- behind in the polls: any smart politician/candidate for office should have learned from Barack Obama's campaign that polls lie.
To conclude, get your facts straight before posting.

And another reason:
His supporters lack a sense of humor!
If what you say is true than one can only come to one conclusion.
He is a quitter.

you people need to cut this guy some slack.....I once ran for city council in a mountain resort town in Colorado. It was a BIG wake up call of just how nasty people can be. It's not about being a quitter, it's about ones ability to be effective. Obama doesn't have to solve the U.S.'s problems, he has to effectively lead others to do it......
