Yes, and until this day the battle continues actively on this forum via the perpetual postings from those that would enslave us and subvert our independence.

Viva la Republica independiente!
Viva nuestra cultura!
Viva nuestra historia!
Viva nuestra lucha contra los invasores extranjeros!

Hermanos, it's a Quisqueyan thing!

Happy Independence Day to all my brothers and sisters. Let's put aside our differences for one day and celebrate we can disagree with each other without persecution; never said anyhting about ridicule on the forums...lol.... We have our problems, but I am never ashamed to say I'm Dominican, I love my people, my country and all the hope I have for this "little slice of paradise" to realize it's potential. Feliz Dia de Independencia y que lo nuestro (Dios, Patria, Libertad) cresca cada dia mas en nuestra socieda.

Adding/Amendment to chillaxin201's first comment.

Let's not pin this in Leonel alone.

Our country needs to be freed from the vicious cycles of corruption.

Our people are willing to act immorally and unethically if means bettering themselves, even if they are stepping on the heads of 1000 others.

We need to free ourselves from this vicious cycle that has become part of our Quisqueyan culture.

Pero Quisqueyanos, alzen la frente, y que Dios bendiga nuestra patria con futuros lideres que esten lleno de moralidad, etica, y amor al pueblo.

Dios, Patria, Libertad
Viva la República Dominicana

lovingit,

Welcome to the "moron" club!

Excellent comment without the Jingoistic Nationalism of the "My Country Right or Wrong Crowd!"

We need to demand independence from poor education, criminal interest rates, lack of health care, rampant criminality and then we can truly celebrate.

Other than that it’s just a photo op for the social viruses that are responsible for our daily misery!

Mientras tanto, seremos reconocidos los Trinitarios con las palabras sacramentales: "Dios", "Patria" y "Libertad". ymnuk3,

If you are refering to "Linda Quisquya" (I am unable to see the link you provided) it was composed by a Puerto Rican brother who loved our Republic as much as we do!

Rafael Hernández Marín

"Many people in the Dominican Republic consider his composition "Linda quisqueya" their second national anthem. [3]"

So why is our flag glorifying and celebrating the flag's colors of our enemy (Haiti)? We didn't get our language, culture, infrastructure, custom, or racial distribution from Haiti for us to be celebrating those bastards! What the hell did Spain do for us to detach ourselves completely and symbolically from them? Even the U.S. has UK colors!

please bear with me, letroudeballe, but just what makes Haiti "our enemy"? can you enlighten me? does it have anything to do with the Haitian occopation which happened eons ago? if not, what recent events contributed to this declaration of enmity?

Dreadlock, How about two million haitian in DR (most are illegal)? How about the destruction of our environment incurred by Haitian nationals (Dominican forest, the BUBIS, the importation of crazy ants, etc.)? How about the burning of the Dominican flag by them and the expulsion of our president when he visited Haiti in 2006? What about the embargo of Dominican poultry and other finished meat products based on a bologne Avian virus (yet importing stuff from all places Turkey)?

Belly, get this and quickly! Haitian hate us and we will not waste our resources and ITBIS to people who are irresponsible (high fertility rates beyond support, violence, sick, uneducated, contraband-drugs-weapons) and want to eat our side of the island alive!

You tell the Haitian "treat others the way you want to be treated" since the Haitian have slaved the Dominican in the past (1801, 1805, 1822-1844, 1845, 1849, 1855) and today they are dumping their mess to us and wiping out our environment, resources and displacing the criollos from jobs and government services as well as our culture with the crappy creole, kompas, voodoo, and soccer!

You can't deny the extreme negative impact the Haitian are imparting on DR! When you write, do so with history and knowledge of current affairs in mind, failing to do this and you'll be blasted!

A warning to all the prohaitian! Communication = delivery (language: word+grammar) + content. It is the freaking content that you must address since that reflects action +results (behavior).

Don't write beautiful and hypnotizing messages that convey no content (high fat and low protein). For that go to a literature or writing blog!

i apologise to you too, letroudeballe. but i ask you one more question; when do you think this foolishness should end? in another 200 years? 500, maybe? do you consider perpetual enmity to be productive? i mean, a little ove 60 years ago, the americans dropped atomic bombs on two civilian targets in japan, killing innumerable people. there is no love lost between the two countries, but today they can mend fences. there is a lot of blame to go around, on both sides. but fingerpointing against Trujillo, or Toussaint, will not fix today's mess. those guys are dead, rotten, and should be forgotten!

Dreadlock, hostility is the only language the neighbors understand and it is the only weapon left to our disposal that can be used to revert the penetration of the neighbors in DR. In 1937, Trujillo rescued Dajabon from Haiti and after 1937, NO ILLEGAL Haitian dared to cross over without the permission from our government! Violence worked! Just ask Hatillo Palma and Montecristi with regards to the Haitian who left those area after the locals rebelled against their presence!

With regards to Japan, Japan has not forgotten that crime against Japan and the reason they play along with the U.S. is for economic reason and military protection from China/DPKN/South Korea due to the imperialistic and annexation attempts carried out by the Japanese emperor in the 1920's and 1930's. But if you talk to the Japanese citizens and secretly they will tell you they can't wait to return the favor to the U.S.!

Given the open border (DR is not capable to control it) and the overpopulation in Haiti (9.1 million in 1/3 of Hispaniola), this can only lead to an avalanch of poverty to DR leading to the destruction of DR and its identity! We can not mend fences nor hold dialogues with the animals (who thinks the whole island is theirs for the taking). We must star a nationality cleansing otherwise the concept of Dominican will only exist in the Diaspora!

Don't destroy the future of our children by dumping millions of foreigners in DR! This is not a good conservative and enduring policy for DR and its culture!

actually Letroudeballe, i tend to believe that if the Japanese get an opportunity to exact revenge , they will. but reconciliation has to start somewhere. unless you do not think it is necessary. and, do not get me wrong here. Haiti is as much to blame as the DR, but for different reasons.

The only reconciliation is "RESPECT AND STAY IN YOUR LAND." There is no other option or outcome. We must purge ourselves and keep them out! Trade (commercial:goods, technological, culture, etc.) yes! But not the illegal intrusion of people (including pregnant women) to DR. We can not let our guards down in this issue. This issue is more important than any topic in DR (more so than politics, religion, poverty, etc.). Haiti either must control their high fertility rate (2.8 %) or Haiti must be allow to self destruct or be destroyed. The whole Caribbean is Haitian fatigue (Cuba 378,000 Haitian, Turk & Caicos 4, 200, Bahamas 1,800, Jamaica 2,400, PR very few) and they consider Haiti a threat to the Caribbean. Haiti is the aggressor (unilateral attack), and DR can't think of reconciliation until the previously stated conditions are met!

Of course that the sugar industry has been bringing Haitian workers (started by the U.S. in 1916) that were returned back to Haiti adn the end of the harvest season and after 1961, Haitian started to stay in DR. Now the agricultural and construction sectors are hiring the illegal Haitian not because they have superior skills or experience but because they are cheaper ($1.8 dollars/day) and THOSE JOBS ARE NEVER ADVERTISED TO PUBLIC FOR COMPETITION. The greed and selective hiring of the capitalists has been interpreted by the Haitian as a permit for them to live in DR regardless of boundary, laws, or government planning. Now the women, children and elderly are joining in, and DR has become the host of 2 million Haitian. Haitian leaders are smiling since their desire is the colonization of DR. Ever since the U.S. stopped admitting Haitians in 1981, the Haitian have selectively gone to DR!
