SANTO DOMINGO. - The National Police fired and filed charges against 51 officers and agents, on charges of homicide and conspiracy with drug traffickers, who paid them "tolls" to look the other way in the cities Puerto Plata and Bonao.

The Justice Ministry also investigates three of its officials for allegedly being linked to drug traffickers.

A Police commission named to investigate the denunciations against its members stationed in Puerto Plata and nearby towns, recommended the firing of an Air Force sergeant and a Navy chief petty officer assigned to the Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) there.

Colonel Franck Felix Almonte Castillo, first lieutenant Jose Daniel Cepeda and second lieutenant Pedro Pablo Toribio are to be placed on retirement and charged, together with 31 agents, the commission said.

It accused lieutenant Jose Daniel Rubio, sergeant major Rafael Rosary and the agent Addier Miguel Mustaffa of the shooting death of the brothers Jose and Ruddy Cabrera, and Julio Cesar Garcia, on January 2.

As part of the probe, the Police also relieved of duty general Rafael Calderon Effres, but the commission noted that he’s not a suspect.

Moreover in Bonao, 20 Police agents and officers were charged with conspiracy with drug traffickers, from whom they allegedly charged a “toll.” the commission said.

Firing squad or hanging for those that dishonor the uniform.
That is the only way to stop the hemorrage that is consuming the DR armed forces.
If impunity or "slaps in the wrist" continue then it will only get worse never better.

Keel Hauling is also another very good deterrent and would be appropriate considering the ampount of open ocean and availability of vessels. 51 officers, em former officers, wow what a haul. Keep it coming.

Thats goog to hear keep the name calling up that way we know who says present in prison. And they better not get sick because that trick have been used before and we ain't going to take that BS no more

I agree, those who don’t respect the uniform should be hanged or at least they should get life in jail. Are they going to give them retirement and benefits ? i don't get it !

Although there is undeniable corruption within the arm forces i think we are making progress..
At least we know who some of them are .........

Please keep your emotions under control.
Hanging ?
Is this Irak,Iran,China,North Korea that we are talking about or the Dominican Republic?
These guys, they do not formulate the drug the do not have speed boat nor air planes to deliver it and redistribute it.
When will we stop the hanging ?
When one of our relatives get caught ?

I disagree with you on this one if any of this guys were related to me i would personally bring them down to a police station and hope they get hang. I give second chances to those that made mistake where the only person they hurt was them self but people hurting ohters while comminting crimes should be hang at least the first few until the message gets out the door. is a chain game drugs=addicts=thief=rape=murder=lost family of good dominicans that are straight shooter. Remember war brings peace so let the war start now. i bet if they hang a couple of these guys the other will think twice don't believe come to texas and kill a cop and you will be a date with Heringa or the electric chair. Thats why nobody want to go to jail in Texas what else you think is.

I really like the keel hauling idea. I will suggest it to the new chief of the Navy, see what he thinks.
It could be certainly a deterrent.

MET cops become real cops

Yesterday, 1,990 transport police officers (PMT) who up till now weren't members of any of the DR's public institutions were officially assigned to the National Police Department. The officers will now receive full medical benefits, pensions, funeral services, life insurance, financing for vehicles, access to scholarships and will have the ability to obtain loans, if needed. The announcement was made by Police Chief Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin and AMET Chief Rafael Bencosme Candelier.

Belly I undertand you approach to this problem but shoud not we start correcting the cause instaed of punishing the symptoms,
Man is born good but stressed financially , he becomes bad.
If yo say what, who, where.when I guess we could also ask why and how to prevent it in the future.
As a social histirian and he who appreciates the historical detenerminism I can suggest that the same people placed in the same situations with the same needs and having the same opportunities will commit the same crimes.
We need to correct the same needs, the same situations and the same opportunities.
Forgive my ramblings
