SANTO DOMINGO.- The director of the National Housing Bank (BNV) and one of the key politicians of the allied opposition PRSC party yesterday said president Leonel Fernandez’s government doesn’t control its officials, leading many to go their own way and not under the plans drawn up by the chief executive.

Leonardo Matos Berrido said officials have to hold frequent meetings for the government to trace policy and guidelines for them and also to designate a person to establish coherence and who keep tabs on them.

He urged the officials to support Fernandez government so that it can confront the problems that the global crisis generates.

In that regard, the also president of the Dominican Baseball League warned that to reduce unemployment it’s necessary to take energetic measures to detain the hiring of illegal foreigners, whose number, he warned, will continue to increase.

Matos noted that when employers hire undocumented persons they break the Immigration Law and consequently, must be charged.

He said if the practices continues it will bring about a tremendous crisis and violence between Dominicans and Haitians.

Leonardo Matos Berrido said officials have to hold frequent meetings for the government to trace policy and guidelines for them and also to designate a person to establish coherence and who keep tabs on them................Yeah just like Balaguer that worked very well in the 19th century and got the DR nowhere .....Leonel hate him or love him is a modern forward looking politico going in the correct direction ....His successor will be equally important ....the corruption is embedded from these PRSC guys and worse they have to go....

Dominicans are inbred with entitled corruption. The old politicians MUST be voted out. They wear corruption as a badge of honor.

gmiller261 I agree with you, but there is a little problem those old politicians that have been running a beloved country are the one who are training the new ones or are in bed with them so it is very difficult to get rid of these deceases. It is like a cancer you could try to remove it and it may go away but eventually it comes back.

Look who is talking. This guy is not only a wife beater but he is the poster child for abusers having assassinated his wife in cold blood, crime which he did not serve one day due to his political connections.
Shame on you, we haven't forgotten the horrible crime of this terrible man.

What sentencing, could you clarify please?
I heard some rumors a while back about a wife dying or something.
Update: I looked up some old newspapers and he did shoot his wife in the parking lot of the Embajador hotel during Balaguer's time. Crime that he never served time for. He was later appointed
Ambassador to the Vatican.

"To GC the banned one"
"greased her" is not the adequate word, you defender of the wife beaters in DR.
He "wacked" her would be more appropriate talking with an Italian slang, "greased" means corrupting the umpire sort of thing.
She was going to her car while he assaulted her and called her unprintable names and shot her several times at point blank range, leaving her dead and her children motherless.
This unpunished crime is still remembered by many women that were abused physically by their husbands.
A low life like yourself that makes fun of such a horrible crime deserves public condemnation, she was not gambling at the hotel. But of course you have no shame, you public relations expert for the Dominican wife beaters (or now is the Dominican wife murderers) club.
I will suggest you should be banned again for libel.

He must have been sent to the Vatican to do penance for his crime, or as a reward for applying the Inquisition's rules on unfaithful wives.

He did shoot his wife in the parking lot and never went to jail and many say balaguer influenced the "trial" which by the way i can't find any where it took place. they say it did take place but who knows if was something closed or something else. I can tell you that in my San francisco people don't like him at all. Also his life pension will go on after he is dead an't something wierd. So even if he dies he still gets a check from the gov. Y quien decia que la caja de muerto no tienen bolsillo hahaha parece que la de el si. He is just piss off Leonel and the PLD are noticing this and are about to do something about it so no more money for dead Leonardo Matos. enjoy your last yrs/paychecks cause he won't need them in hell.

This mafioso got a big post at the government housing ministry where he continued with his old habits from Balaguer's time of graft and corruption to the square root. He enjoys several pensions
and is also baseball commissioner or something related. He was called Mr.10%.
That is why we need a revolution in this country, because of slime balls like that still roaming around.
Chillaxin where are you?

What happens is in san francisco drug dealers are drug dealer we are not good a finding pretty names for crooks. some others call them politian or even good man of society. San francisco always been a outspoken town if you check the history you will find that we learned the hard way that politians don't do anything unless the local people push them. I know of many drug dealer that did it just to help poor people there. I can go on but the history is long and i can tell you that later.

We live with criminals from Trujillo's time walking the streets with impunity. Balaguer's henchmen
who murdered Manolo Tavarez and Caamaño in the mountains enjoying state retirement. Persons who made their money
in the Balaguer and PRD mafia living like kings when before they entered government had nothing.
It is a sad culture of impunity and "borrón y cuenta nueva" BS that's eating us up as a society.

It is a shame that such a crook has such a great idea about immigartiojn issues and he knows is a great idea that could clean his record and turn him around!
Another politian with a clean record should steal his immigartion ideology and run with it.

Matos should be charged.

That slime ball does not deserve a trial. He deserves the gallows.
Not only he made a mockery of justice, but he flaunts it as well and rubs his impunity in our noses.
