SANTO DOMINGO. - The new Navy Chief of Staff today pledged not to talk to press unless he has evidence to prevent harming reputations, when asked if that branch has “cells” of sailors involved in the killing of seven Colombians in Paya, Bani.

Homero Lajara said the Navy, like the other military branches, is going through a purge as the situation merits and as president Leonel Fernandez ordered. “We took possession Saturday and we’ve been in the post just 48 hours, and we don’t want make statements that aren’t backed by evidence to not affect reputations.”

The official asked the press to understanding because “there are situations that cannot be taken to the public light, since the investigation could get mired.”

The new Navy chief, interviewed after a mass in the Cathedral to mark the Police’s 73rd anniversary, said he’ll have a warm and supportive relation with the press.

Admiral Lajara son of ex-Navy Chief Lajara Burgos has an earned reputation of being a tough cookie, just like his dad was, and has fine genes.
He worked closely with the US military advisors with the MAAG forces in DR, and has a lot of US training experience.
He is certainly a welcome addition as Naval chief and will be setting example as his fine record shows.
My congratulations to you, Sir.

He is kind of fat. He needs to start working out and be an example of well-fitted military.

Mac Arthur; Tell that to the men of the "Bonus Army!"

Mac Cain; Remember the Keating Five or the wife he abandoned after she had a disfiguring car accident! She waited for him to return from Vietnam, nursed him back to health and then he dumped her for rich spring chicken!

I am retired American Navy and met this man while I was shopping at the Navy Exchange in Jacksonville, FL, and can accurately describe him as one of the nicest men I have ever met. He is extremely knowedable about his allies and the American Navy, our chat was extremely pleasant and he was very impressed with Jacksonville, FL and the American Navy, and the Navy of the Dominican Republic should count itself blessed to have such a excellent man in charge of it.
