Santo Domingo.– Despite the global downturn, the Dominican economy will see modest growth this year to better-than-expected indicators, president Leonel Fernandez said.

Inflation is relatively low, while tourism and remittances from abroad have not declined as much as had been predicted, Fernandez told a forum by The Economist Group this week. "Tourism revenue is expected to be down by about $80 million to nearly $4.1 billion, and remittances are expected to drop by about $110 million to nearly $2.9 billion," he said.

The country will have GDP growth of about 3 percent, not the 1 percent predicted by the group's analysts, Fernandez told the forum in the capital.

Lower fuel and food prices have cut inflation to about 4.5 percent rather than the 12 percent forecasted, the president pointed out. He hopes for $2.3 billion in foreign direct investment this year.

At last we have been given some idea some idea where the growth in GDP will come from ..not from net export increases, not from an increase in domestic consumption, not from an increase in government spending but from an increase in direct investment from overseas. As most tourism projects in the east have been postponed,it would be interesting to know what projects are being advanced. Well I hope the President is correct but i would be interested to see a few details.

In relation to jobs there is rapidly growing unemployment here especially in the east where construction has slowed right down ..in the la Estancia project more than 40 people were stood down on wednesday ..I can not name a sector with increasing employment

Dread,

Busy means many clients, as starting from January it was pretty just rentals not sales.
On the page http://www.one.gob.do/ you can compare last years, income, tourists, airports, then construction permits etc.

About the huelga, road conditions, are making real estate job more difficult, Uvero Alto is far away from Bavaro, New Highway sits still, area of Bavaro is waiting for GOV intervention with the quality of roads.
Higuey roads inside of the city og Higuey are in worse condition then Bavaro, there are many streets with washed out asphalt. Villa Cero in Higuey also, Platanito as well. These are poor area of Higuey. I see that the old Church park is in the process of remodelation, thats good, but thats the only thing happening in Higuey. Y bueno, esta obra no se mueve nada.

i suspected that when you used the term "busy", you meant footfall. however , how much is being spent by the owners of these feet that are falling on the pavement?
