SANTO DOMINGO. – A National District Court Tuesday ruled to retry Quirino Paulino’s wife Belkis Elisabeth Ubrí and Ernesto Bienvenido Guevara Diaz (Marconi), so another court can hear the evidence filed in the money laundering case.

Appellate Court 2nd Penal Chamber judges Ramon Horacio González, Pedro Antonio Sanchez and Luis Omar Jiménez also upheld the acquittal of Pedro Julio Goico (Pepe), but ruled against the agreement with the U.S. authorities to protect Ubrí in their Federal Witness Protection Program.

They ruled that the documents aren’t certified by Dominican consular authorities in the United States nor the Foreign Relations Ministry.

Tomorrow Wednesday the Supreme Court is scheduled to rule on Guevara’s extradition to the U.S., to face various drug- trafficking charges together with Paulino, who is being held in New York after a plea bargain with prosecutors.

Paulino was arrested in 2004, with 1,387 kilos of cocaine, Dominican Republic's biggest ever drug bust.

Justice-Dominican style!....the rich and connected walk or get pardoned and the poor rot at "La Victoria". Man, what a country!

Where are the great men of our glorious past? Where are the men of integrity and conviction? How can these shams continue to be perpetuated with total impunity? Reading these stories every day seems to totally diminish the meaning of the slogan: "Dios, Patria y Libertad". It was some of the greatest men who coined that slogan, and some of them died for that sacred belief. The new generation is uncaring and unworthy of that legacy, and it has let its land be invaded once again, with the tacit support of the "Captains and the Kings".

Dominicans should be embarrassed. I wonder if Dominicans even see this as completely absurd.

There are two (2) absurdities here :

1) the judges must have been paid off
2) 'pepe' is ruthless drug dealer and will do it again. He knows nothing else.

Follow the money, fools.

Really, is anyone surprised? Pepe has been around too long, and has too much dirt on everyone.

Escott,

There are over 9.5 million Dominicans. I highly doubt you have met all of them to make such idiotic generalization.
You're the classic stereotypical "Gringo Bruto"

The Dominican Republic authorities are so transparently corrupt that it feels like ALL Dominicans are corrupt. No GOOD gets done because there is ALWAYS an expected 'propina'.

Good people are too afraid to do good, because the the bad people far outnumber them and will do anything to stay in power. Life (Dominican) means nothing to them. They poison their own country men with drugs and kill people who try and stop them.

From an outside view I can see Escott's opinion.

The entitled corruption attitude MUST be stopped. This swine is going to walk free to kill, how?
