SANTO DOMINGO. - A Police unit headed by a brigadier general kept the doctors and other health professionals from reaching the gates of the National Palace noon Wednesday, alleging that the measure was adopted for the marchers' own security.
FILE- The Dominican doctors grouped in the CMD and other health professionals began a march aimed at reaching the National Palace, to demand a wage increase.
The protest march began after 10 a.m., headed by CMD president Waldo Ariel Suero and other guild leaders in the Luis Eduardo Aybar hospital, together with its rank and file, chanting slogans demanding the wage increase and against the Government.
Although the doctors’ protest has been peaceful so far, police agents keep a close watch over the march, prompting curiosity among the citizens.
Suero described the march as gigantic and a plebiscite for the doctors to get the authorities to increase their salaries.

There's plenty of money for the legislator's to raise their salaries to ridiculous levels but not enough for these medical professionals who work so hard. Amazing

I can not get over this situation. It's like the Sanitation workers in NYC when I was growing up there. Both are for ever on strike. Now, the notable difference is that a "Garbageman' doesn't have marketable skills, he's just a Unionized laborer; But, doctors are skilled professionals. What are they doing working like interns? Working like expendable employees?
You figure after they finish their residency they can practice on their own, or demand a decent wage based on their merits. They don't need to go around with picket signs, walking off from Hospitals abandoning patients and causing a ruckus.
You'd think they were the epitome of professionals.
Where's the Hippocratic Oath? "Above all, do no harm"???
Get a real job! If anyone in DR can barter for a living wage it's you guys!
Dejense de tonterias: Y no son Medicos? Remember.... Mi hijo es un Doctor?
Actuen como lo q son! O es que son enfermeros, tal vez?
Por favor; Y los infelices a quien acuden?

What is the average wage? Private and public in the DR? I am sure it isn't good, so the only way they have to get a shot of what's fair is stand up and be heard. Sad....so Sad....

Could some one tell me how much the politicians are paid ...I have been told various times that each minister is paid more than the President of the USA.correct ??

I sincerely believe those doctors deserve higher wages because they work for the benefit of the people. There is a very large variance between the politicos salaries and those in the private/public sector in DR. All these politicians should make no more than $40k a year depending on position in office, with judges making a bit more than that. Many of these politicians make ridiculous amounts of money that could be used to feed entire towns instead of being used by these politicos to further their materialistic lifestyles and mentalities.

From what I read, the doctors are paid by a national wage system, similar to the one use to pay federal employee in the US, the union believe they should not be part of the wage table and all negotiation fail to find a solution.

ArsenioALembertJr,
About your Statement above, all that takes a back seat when your talking about Money.
There are no more Morals in DR, maybe not in the world. The president of DR is a thief. These doctors know it, they just want to make what they think they are worth.
They want their peace of the pie.

What you will see my friend is retaliation from the government forces. Mark my words!
I know the deal. I don't talk for the hell of it.
doctors should be the last people on earth to resort to cheap social actions; they only achieve resistance especially in a puppet Banana Republic.
Check the script, G. You will see massive desmostrations not only in DR, but worldwide in a minute. I sincerely think that doctors being on the higher end of civil society should behave in a different manner. Why give in to mob mentality? Sure they need the money; But now???

Take away their license to practice.
