SANTO DOMINGO.-  The Police arrested and filed charges against 23 youngsters known as “jevitos,” for racing cars in busy avenues in the last three weeks, said Police chief Rafael Guzmán, who added that guns and music equipment were seized and their vehicles impounded.

The Police report said some of the youngsters detained in the races were under the effects of alcohol and drove at high speed, endangering pedestrians and motorists on Maximo Gomez, Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill avenues.

The Police action against the “jevitos” comes in the wake of complaints by residents on the noise from powerful sound equipment installed in the cars and the dangerous competitions in high-power vehicles.

The Police seized music equipment, 13 guns and nine cars, and filed the charges in the upscale Naco sector.

Guzmán said starting at 9 p.m. patrols will be on the lookout for the racing “jevitos” on the major avenues.

They should see some jail time. If they want to race, they should do it late night on an industrial street where there will be no residents.

While I don't approve of street racing, I think the cops are looking to increase the departments income (and perhaps, their own) by busting middle and upper middle class kids while allowing death traps to stay on the road. I've ridden in taxis in SD that i'm sure did not brakes, it was only gravity that allowed the cars to coast to a stop, I've seen cars and trucks with NO windsheilds ! Yet these cars are still on the road ! why? because the owners of these jalopys don't have the money to pay a fine, so the cops target the people who can pay. Is that fair?

How come I can't get any cop to come when I call about the outrageously loud music where I live in Santiago?

If anyone knows a valid number to call, please post it.

in the bad ole USA, when they bust a street race in certain areas, they confiscate not only the cars of the participants, but those of the spectators. if you want your car back, you can go to the auction like everybody else, and bid on it.

GC where are you? I'm in your town Hotel Freeman for the night......

It is not a nice feeling that these fools kill people then get off, then back in their cars to do it again. Not a nice feeling at all.

I have been hearing about these races carried on by papi's and mami's kids, and since mami and papi don't do anything about it, then the police should. Guzman Fermin doesn't play games and I hope that this is just the beginning. The parents should also be hauled to jail for neglect (for not supervising their kids), wanton endargement (for allowing said children to endanger people's lives), and co-conspiracy (for knowingly permitting those brats to break the law).
How old are these kids? Are they old enought to legaly carry guns? Under whose names are these guns registered?

Best way to stop Street racing is to tell those little boys it is Gay..

Other ways I have helped is to sponsor races on the track. In fact I have challenged many of the "kings of Street Racing" to race on the track. A humbling experience for the little SFBs. Nobody takes them serious anymore when they get their butts kicked by an old guy in a slower car.

Auction off the toys minus the horsepower and give the money to the dept. of education.
As long as I can remember the govt. has never complied with the constitutional law to alocate the legal amount of funding for education. I guess education is a low priority competing against the Metro and paying back political favors.

That was one of the linchpins of Commisioner Bratton's strategy to lower crime here in NYC in the 90s and it worked.

Ross Brawn was the Honda team manager. Honda dropped thier F1 program and he did a leverage buy-out. Word is that Virgin Inc. will be the main sponsor.

i see where they won the entire front row in qualifying. what a difference to last year. maybe they caught on with the new design better and faster than the other teams. the cars do look odd this year. as i said, i have lost a lot of info this year, since i cannot get my magazine subscriptions like before. what kind of engines are they running, and what electronic assists are still legal? bring me up to date, please

It is all about the diffusers.

No Traction Control

Brawn are running Mercedes engines.

Magazines? Dude it is 2009. Racing magazines are falling by the wayside. those that are left are mainly Fanzines.

LH while a talent is looked on by the other racers with disdain. He never paid his dues being a pet project of Ron Dennis.
He never drove a crap car. Never had to struggle.......until now.

It's so funny, but this situation has been happening since I was a kid in DR. "La Lincoln" is notorious for this kind of activity, specially on weekends. So this is not surprising at all. I hope that these dumbasses actually get to serve their time in jail and not have their "papis and mamis" bail them out.

impounding vehicles these days is quite normal especially for irresponsible drivers. Many cities are passing laws to impound such vehicles because fines do not solve the problem.

petty, impounding vehicles at inpromptu drag races has been going on since the early 1980s in new york. and not only cars of the participants, but also the spectators.

In NY it is a collar for Unauthorized Speed Contest. It's a VTL misdemeanor. Also depending where they are "racing" a charge of reckless endangerment can be added.

correct, El Platano. the cops were tired of turning on the hydrants, only to have the speedsters switch the venue..that is when they started to impound vehicles
