Ciro Mazzarella was arrested in Februay.
Santo Domingo.- Agents assigned to Interpol yesterday arrested Italian Mafia lieutenant Mariano Martone, wanted in his country to serve a 25 year sentence for assaulting more than 10 banks and stealing more than 170 million euros (around RD$8.2 billion).
Interpol chief Atahualpa Cabrera, interviewed by newspaper Diario Libre, said Martone’s arrest warrant was issued Thursday and detained in Santiago’s Cienfuegos district (north), where he worked as a taxi driver of the company Taxi Familiar.
Italian officials said the fugitive was sought since 2002, and it was recently learned that he resided in Dominican Republic.
Martone, who had a pending international arrest warrant issued by Turin’s Office of the Prosecutor, said he fled to Dominican Republic after receiving death threats from the members of the ring he led and which operated in Novara, Italy.
Interpol officers from Rome didn’t discard that other Italian fugitives are hiding in the country, "because of its tourism attraction and geographic position.”
Cabrera noted that it was Interpol that in February arrested Ciro Mazzarella, head of the famous Mazzarella Clan of the Neapolitan mafia Camorra.

Well done! there are hundreds of these people in D.R. Especially from that European country. Go and check La Romana & Higuey provinces. I've seen them showing off their Dominican ID (Cedulas) Have they met the criteria for this valuable Document ? Some of them get this document even before landing in Dominican soil and as I said before, ignorant Dominican lick their boots. ( No wonder why, 170 m Euros . What a lotta money. But you have to bear in mind that now some of those individuls are moving into the interior of the country in order to evade their locations.
See you soon.

How do you go from "stealing more than 170 million euros" to being a taxi driver? Mafia should hire a few money managers.

"what is the only Arabic country to have never declared war on Israel ? ............Sicily"
When I lived in Bensonhurst, a predominatelty italian-American neighborhood in Brooklyn, I once overheard an Italian neighbor of mine making disparaging remarks about Arabs. After injecting myself in the conversation I informed him that Sicily was mostly Arab in culture and civilization during the early middle ages and would most likely have remained so had it not been for medieval Norman knights. After the typical ignorant denials from this fellow I told him to look it up and discuss it with me next time he saw me on the block. The truth must've bothered him. He never said so much as hello to me again.LOL.

Now how the hell does an Italian guinea end up driving a cab in Santiago after stealing $170M euros. What was he thinking? Was he trying to blend in and become incognito or something? God, I would think he's stick out like a sore thumb as soon as he opens his mouth. It would be like a chinese guy selling coconuts on a street corner of calle el sol. He would say: "oye helmano to lo quere paltir lo coco pa'tomalte lo agua y depue te come un alo chino con camalone." Why did he not just open up a pizzeria or an olive oil import company, it would be most apropriate. He was going to get caught anyhow, sooner or later. Imagine picking up an interpol agent at the airport and the driver happens to be the suspect. If I were him, I'd go hide in a mountain town, like jarabacoa or constanza and start growing a grape vineyard or raise chickens. How about Brazil, I think they don't have an extradition treaty and it is such a big country it is easy to hide and disappear. He sounds like an idiot to me
