Santo Domingo.- The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (CIDH) begins its 38th period of extraordinary sessions in the country’s Foreign Relations Ministry at 10 a.m. today, event in which president Leonel Fernandez is expected to take part.
In its sessions the CIDH will hear several cases related to freedom of the press and the disappearances in Peru, Honduras and Venezuela, but will not address those related to this country, said the Foreign Relations Ministry in a press release. “The norms that govern this international organism don’t allow it to hear cases referring to the country that hosts its work."
The 1994 case of the disappearance of university professor Narciso González (Narcisazo) during the presidency of Joaquin Balaguer was submitted to the Human Rights court.
