Santiago de Cuba.– President Leonel Fernandez paid
tribute on Friday to Cuba's National
Hero Jose Marti at the Santa
Ifigenia Cemetery, in the eastern
city of Santiago de Cuba.
The Dominican Head of State
expressed his satisfaction in seeing
students from his country studying
medicine in that eastern city. Fernandez also showed interest
in visiting the University of
Oriente and touring Santiago de Cuba, a city
which he considers very similar to
his country.
During his stay in Havana, the
Dominican President met with the
leader of the Revolution, Fidel
Castro, and attended the 11th International
Meeting of Economists on
Globalization and Problems of
Development.

The Cubans must say how can a country who gave us General Maximo Gomez have fallen into the hands of a nincompoop like this!

The sweeping Cabinet shuffle underscores Cuban leader Raúl Castro's eagerness to bring military-style discipline to an economy that a top U.S. intelligence official recently called ``a basket case.''
Facing a $10 billion hurricane destruction tab, soaring food prices and declining revenue, Castro wiped out nearly his entire economic team, sacking some of the country's most visible rising stars.
Theories abound -- some contradictory
This much is clear: Cuba's economy is in a free fall.
''The year coming to an end has been without doubt one of the most difficult since the special period began,''
The economy is going so badly that Raúl Castro cut travel spending in half and stopped offering bonuses and other perks to government workers.
In the last hurricane season, Cuba suffered several devastating storms. The recovery bill came as the nation paid a record $710 million for food imports to the United States alone -- a 61 percent rise in a single year.

US companies are queuing up as the president moves to ease restrictions on travel and trade, raising hopes of:

The legislation before us today, would extend credit, through the U.S. banking system to Cuba, a nation that recently disclosed it owes more than $29 billion to the Paris Club - a debt they stopped making payments on back in the 1980s.
In its current financial situation, Cuba ranks second on the list of the world's most indebted nations.
Cuba's appalling credit history and chronic failure to pay its debts also raises serious questions about the effort to extend credits at a time when U.S. taxpayers are being saddled with the price tag of the economic recovery.
It's appalling the U.S. would consider liberalizing trade with Cuba at the same time that we deny better trade relations with some of our strongest allies in the hemisphere.

When our native Maximo Gomez along with Antonio Maceo (son of a Dominican woman) were the real Liberators of Cuba?

Sounds as if Leonel is doing the right thing and respecting heroes of the revolution now the US is corrupt, bankrupt with huge unemplloyment and a substantial 5th. column that wants Obama to fail in his mission to improve the lot ot the US people. Trading with US companies - they want a deposit then go bankrupt before they deliver the goods. Universties are expected to go broke and and are already laying off thousands of professors before students finish their courses. It is excellent that DR students are studing medicine in Cuba. Casino students in the US will benefit from the high speed rail link from Las Vagas to the coast. It is good that DR has a responsible president!

Sounds very sensible to develop relationships with Cuba. There are great achievements.
Good chance of win-win trade as DR agricultural output expands. It helps set up L as a great leader of Latin America
