Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo.– Sen. Alejandro Williams acknowledged hiring the private detectives to question three journalists, to discover the origins of news reports saying he was under investigation for alleged health insurance fraud, Listín Diario and El Caribe report.

According to El Nuevo Diario, the detectives hired by the senator went to the home of María Soldevila, an editor of Listín Diario, identifying themselves as officials of Medicaid (a U.S. federal health program), to gather information about the allegations against Williams.

The men made the same claims when they visited the newsroom of the jornal digital 7 Dias digital newspaper, led by Margarita Cordero. The detectives also contacted Norma Sheppard, correspondent for Radio Mil.

In an interview with journalist Alicia Ortega for the U.S. station Antena Latina, the senator admitted hiring the detectives and said they'd been recommended by a U.S. law firm.

What more do we need to process this guy or don't tell me he is going to play the sick man role and wait for Leonel to pardon him. Come on Leonel at least you can show some guts before leaving to Palace and i know you done good thing for DR but please get this guy in jail for at least 50 yrs that way we can start the clean up process. Well i know i'm a big dreamer but it may become true if you wish it hard enought

I'm going to be as aptimistic as you on this one because this guy should not be acceptable in DR and Leonel should make him the example of what happen when you mess with DR's freedom because as we all know thats the reason our founding fathers died for all of us to live by their word "freedom or death" and we should not accpet nothing but that and no matter where is coming from we shall always be free or given death.

All the above opinions are correct. But what about our sports minister Jay Payan, who recruited this guy and was the one to stuff ballots and cheat at the Los LLanos polling stations to get this idiot elected. Most people from SPM never heard or knew this guy. Also involved in his recruiting was Morla the ex-governor of SPM. expecting the PLD to admit a mistake or to show some type of integrity is expecting too much. The party will be like the PRSC a 1 candidate businnes that will sooner or later become irrelevant .

This issue has to be launched to a global level for LFs peers to see that he has a professional and moral obligation to allow the justice system to prevail and see to it personally that Williams doe's at least 20 years in La Victoria.

I pay a lot of money in taxes and I want service for my money damn it!!

Lets hope the Medicare fraud charges have some evidence. The FBI will snatch this scum right up in the Bronx and he will serve time! If the DR government refuses to touch this thief lets see how his fellow senators take to him serving the community from a US prison!

I get sick of going to dinner with our friends and hearing the news of how pathetic the DR government is to allow this type of behavior.

Leonel doesn't seem to care how poorly we Dominicans are looked at by the international community by allowing this type of behavior.

Veronica, he just may have Diplomatic Status and therefore claim Diplomatic Imunity, if and when he is charged in NY. You know everything is possible in "el pais de las maravillas". Don't let it upset your dinner, there really nothing you can do, unless you live in the DR, and are a documented dominican citizen, then you may have a chance to change things. Then of course, you can also win the Poweball Lottery if you play....

corruption in DR is major problem in political class and the williams saga is not even the head of iceberg.Presidente Lionel Fernandez wants a modern country with healthy economy. Many goals are acomplished .Systems are changing and it is very important to control the quisqueyan mafia.

From what I can see his behavior is very much the same as MANY dominican polititions, police and military, CORRUPT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are they corrupt? Because there is no law inforcement, punishment or consequences.

"You can not predict the future so try predicting what will benefit the people in power the most, and that is what will happen."

Is it in their interest this guy gets fired and punished? Would make a good PR stunt, and Leonel likes those, on the other hand I'm sure this guy knows a lot of things that would sink a few others as well, but would he talk, or would he take the "golden parachute" and retire to Metro Country Club? I am sure there is constant communication/negotiation between this guy and guys back home. What would benefit Leonel and PLD the most? I think this guy's resignation, if the press keeps the story on the front pages, and eventually he will get another high ranking GOV position, possibly in the DR consulate in NYC, as a reward for being very "understanding" with the The Don and his PR people. If that is what Leonel wants that is what will happen. I doubt the senator would fight a battle he knows he can not win.

Juango,

The diplomatic immunity only applies if he is a Dominican politician conducting official business for and on behalf of the Dominican Government TO THE U.S. GOVERNMENT. A Dominican Senator would not have diplomatic dispensation.

No diplomatic immunity for this guy. He owns and operates business inside the USA. If he is show to be involved with defrauding the US government for millions of dollars his status as a senator won't much matter. He will be easy to grab when he visits his dental clinics in the Bronx. Hopefully the US government makes an example of this guy and puts him away for 50 years!

Tex, you are correct, but one never know in the DR. You have Lawyers practicing without legal registration, that never graduated from law school. You have impossible thing that happen in the DR. I would not be surprised if LF has already signed a decree which gives Williams diplomatic status, a get out of jail card.... stranger things have happened in the DR..Williams may already be assigned to the NY counsulate (diplomat) without making it public as yet.

It may be that Williams got the senator position for coraling Dominican York Voters for the PLD. Many People have political positions and govt. jobs that are no more qualified than Captain Kangaroo or Mickey Mouse.

If LF takes this clown down, it will look good to the outsiders but to the rest of the PLD it would be like being a baby killer or an animal eating one of his own species.

When this guy ran for the Senate he had to run against Hazim from SPM. Hazim had a Presidential Project (like every rich Dom.) and did not want a Senate bid, had already said so. But the PRSC wanted to run their best to get the % of votes out. Votes mean $. But ANTUN and AMABLE, saw Hazims loss as a way to keep the party to themselves (what was left of PRSC).
So here is what we got. SPM PLD guys already dismissed him from PLD SPM. The senate should do same.
