HIGÜEY. - President Leonel Fernandez instructed the ruling PLD party’s legislators to approve as is the controversial Article 30 of the constitutional reform bill submitted to Congress.
PLD deputy Juan Julio Campos made the revelation Tuesday, and said all of his party’s and allied parties’ lawmakers will support the Head State’s position. “In the last meeting we had with president Leonel Fernandez in the National Palace he said that we had to maintain article 30 as is, which establishes the right to life from conception to death.”
He said although Fernandez “hasn’t dictate policy to them,” that was the expression of the chief executive, who is also the president of the PLD. “Particularly I will accept that position, and I believe it’s the same position of most of the PLD assembly members, to keep the penalty for abortion as the churches are asking, that is to say, that the PLD’s position is for article 30 to remain as is.”
The Altagracia province (east) legislator said the Dominican Republic is “a believing” country, for which it needs to maintain those values that bolster the family. “It’s necessary to penalize abortion constitutionally and to maintain its firmness.”
Different sectors say they opposed to legalizing abortion and the Catholic Church, through cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, has labeled those who promote abortion “butchers.”

Mr Leonel will avoid colliding with anybody just because he doesn't have any guts to say whats right and wrong. Great president but a coward thats letting others decide what happens under his watch. I believe abbortion should be permitted in special cases but not turn it into a option out of being resposible for your actions. it shouldn't be a part of any constitution but up to the locals on a case by case basis.

Abortion should be legal, unless the GOV will guarantee the future mother that they will pay all the expenses associated with raising the kid. If a woman/girl for whatever reason does not want the child, how is forcing her to have it good for the child? Stupid Jesus freaks pushing their BS on the rest of the society. You should blame Mans interpretation of Gods Laws not God. Even Atheist get a nice Religious Funeral where they are portrayed as GOOD, LOVING and caring HUMAN BEING while they were alive B*** S***. (Totally false statement. Get your facts right. The DR is 57th - get that - 56 countries more dense, Haiti has 40 countries more dense. And this is NOT the issue. It is the value placed on human life. In Canada a woman shot hersefl in the gut and tried to kill her baby. When the baby was born the docs discovered the lead. She was supposed to be charged with attempted murder. Instead the pro- murder the babies people screamed foul play and she was never charged. And some of you actually think this is moral and sane? The West is doomed. God's wheels of justice turn very slow but the grind mighty fine. )
If the men who are forcing this issue on women are the ones who will somehow be obligated to take care of the child 100% of them would say "Uh wait, count me out! I got my own life to deal with".
Organized religion is a terrible thing, be it Christianity, Catholic church, Islam... same BS. Close-minded people pushing their agenda on others. In my opinion all organized religion should be banned, if someone wants to find "God" they can read The Bible or Quran or whatever on their own and draw their own conclusions from it, without someone else telling them what to believe in and what to think. People who go to church to be preached to are nothing but the sheep, the followers who need someone else to tell them what is round and what is square.

If i am so wrong please explain to me the logic behind the church being so anti-condom use? Wouldn't it make more sense if they said "If you are not sure you want a child use condoms"?
Some one once said to me when I was a smoker that '' if God wanted us to smoke , he would of put chimneys on our heads ...Biblically speaking , the world is only 6000 years old and condoms have only been around for about 50 of those years ...God invented sex my friend , not condoms, and He meant for it to be pleasurable and ''NATURAL'' , but also only between a man and his one wife .. If we did things Gods way to begin with , we wouldnt need condoms and we wouldnt have Stds or abortions ... Gods laws and commandments are meant to give us life , not rob us of it..

(Yes, churches do take care of and take in pregant teens. Also, are you not aware that 1000's of couples - having used too much birth control pills or whatever - are now desperate fo babie s- there is a waiting list. If you ended up with a puppy you did not want - would you like it???? NO???? But he human life - sure thing - suck the brains out as it is being born!)
